Twenty One

“So babe, you’re at your house right now, correct?” I asked, trying to keep a steady grip on the steering wheel. Thankfully, the wonderful state in which I lived had yet to adopt the no-talking-on-the-phone-while-driving law.

       “No,” he replied.

       “What do you mean?”

“I’m not there yet,” he clarified.

“So, I’m headed over to your house to simply sit in the driveway for an hour?” I swerved the car to the right as a car passed me.

       “No; of course not!”

“Then what am I going to do?” I questioned, unhappy with the answers he had been giving me so far.

“Evan’s there. He’ll let you in. You two can spend some good one on one bonding time together!” Nick explained, as I could almost hear the smirk in tone.

“No way! No offense, but I hate your brother,” I said, shivering at the thought of spending any alone time with the elder Ross brother.

“Well, the alternative is you going back to spend time at your house.”

“Have I ever mentioned to you how much I love your brother?” Lately, I had been trying to avoid spending any spans of time at my house. Why? Well, Cameron’s presence was a pretty motivating thing to escape. I didn’t want to talk to him, see him, or be near him. Currently, I was heading over to Nick’s house.

“Yeah, I know he’s a great guy. I texted him, he knows you’re coming,” Nick said in regards to his wonderful brother.

“So, do I have to actually talk to him?” I shuddered.

       “Yes.”

       “Why?”

       “Because you do.”

“Whatever. By the way, I just pulled up to your house,” I said, readjusting the phone, and stopping my car.

“Okay; go in- I’ll be there in at least half an hour,” he promised.

       “Okay.”

       “Bye, Elle.”

“Bye, Nick,” I bid, pressing ‘End Call’ button. I slowly got out of my car, and walked up the stone path to Nick’s magazine perfect house. With Danni being an interior designer and all, Nick told me that when they first got the house she kind of went crazy creating her dream house.

I knocked on the door- no answer. After looking around on the patio, I spotted a doorbell. Cautiously, I pressed it. I Then heard someone yell from inside the house, and the next thing I knew I was standing face to face with Evan Ross.

“My brother texted me; said you’d be over. Come in?” he greeted in an inquisitive tone.

“Uh, okay,” I said, stepping in.

“Jake’s here. When I told him you were coming, he said he’d talk to you so I didn’t have to,” Evan said sharply.

“Jake’s here?” I asked, happy to know it wasn’t just Evan and I in the house.

“Yeah. Jake!” he yelled. As if on cue, Jake came running towards us coming from one of the many hallways.

“Elle!” he said in a voice filled with friendliness, a smile consuming his expression.
