Chapter 2: Nothing Stays The Same.
Jacobs' POV
When the world is gone, is there anyone who really stays the same? Do we have anyone who won't do things that they never dreamed.
He put on his black trenchcoat, hoping it would mask him better in the early hours of this morning. He grabs his sword, and walks into his sister's room. As he entered he made note of the fact that Amber wasn't in the room. He walked over to Bailey, giving her a kiss on her forehead before leaving the room. As he walked out, he saw Amber looking out of the window, wearing a tanktop and sweatpants. Her short brown hair looked like she had only just gotten up, with her eyes looking puffy, as if she were crying.
"You okay Amb?" Jacob put his hands on her shoulders, giving them a light squeeze. She looked up, a light smile on her face and a small shiver went throughout her body.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just..worried i suppose." She leaned forward, hugging Jacob close.
"About what? Not about little old me, right?" His arms slowly snaked around her back, rubbing her lower back in circles.
"Just, please come back. We can't, I can't, lose you. Before I came here, i didn't know what to do with my life." Fresh tears went down her face, her eyes resuming the puffiness that they once had. Jacob's arms pulled her back in, letting her tears continue. After a moment's pause, he kissed her on the forehead, whispering "I won't leave you," as he walked out the door.
Going into his garage, Jacob looked at his two choices as transportation. On the left, closest to him, he saw his chrome-plated motorbike, a gift from his father on his 16th birthday. On the right, he saw his mother's black SUV. After weighing the options between the two, Jacob hops in the SUV and drove off.
He rode the SUV down the road for about 45 minutes, making right and left turns when he was necessary. Jacob knew to stay off of the main roads, fearing the chance of someone finding him and steal his stuff, or worse, to take him. As he drove down a backroad. After a couple more minutes of driving, he came upon an old grocery store. Jacob parked his truck and walked around the building, making sure that no one was near. after doing this, Jacob drew his sword and walked inside. after spending around 20 minutes confirming that he was safe, he put his sword away and began packing bags, on backpack was filled with apples, another with cans of beans. After filling a third bag with canned fruit, he got his fourth bag and went to the hygiene section. He filled his bag with as much soap and shampoo that he could. On top he stacked some boxes of feminine hygiene products. On the top of the shelf Jacob saw a doll that he thought Bailey would like. On accident, he dropped the doll, and turned around to pick it up.
Jacob had his back turned to the door when it opened.
He stood, his hilted sword in his hand. "Who's there?" Jacob called out cautiously. Suddenly, a crackling sound emerged, and dust filled the area around jacob, along with fragments of what jacob thought to be chalk.
"You know...I don't really appreciate strangers out on my field...", a voice said, a snicker soon following it.
"Well, I don't remember any signs saying 'Creeps property' so don't think you own this place." Jacob stood up, looking towards where the man was.
A man stepped out from the swirling dust. He wore a denim jacket, with black pants. He had on a bloody baseball helmet and held a wooden slugger with the word "Betsy" inscribed on it. He began to laugh as he tipped the helmet up to reveal a pair of crazed eyes staring at Jacob. He smiled widely and put the bat up on his shoulder.
