Carly quietly calmed herself as the demon stood a step away from her, clearly enjoying her panic. Was this it, was she going to die tonight? No. She had to stay positive and push on. At least she was right about one thing tonight, the demons did know about the knife and it just so happened they went to get it the same night she did. How ironic. She cursed herself quietly for not coming sooner, then she wouldn't have run into any trouble, or so she thought. There was no way she could fight a demon in her state, all she could do was run with the knife and hope for the best. That was the only plan she had, the others would have ended with her dead. Wait all her plans ended like that. Typical.
"So," The demon broke her train of panic. "Are you going to hand over the knife like a good girl or are we going to have to do this the hard way?"
Carly snapped out of her panic state and looked toward the door. Could she make it? She had to try. She slowly grabbed the knife from behind her back not breaking eye contact with the demon. As she did this, she finally found the nerve to speak again.
"There is no way in hell I'm going to hand over this knife." She said through her teeth. She had the knife in her hand.
" That's to bad." The demon said. " The hard way it is."
After that sentence, Just like that, the room erupted in chaos. The demon hauled back his fist and Carly darted passed him and ran out the door. Before she could reach the stairs the demon had caught up to her and pushed her down onto the cold hard floor. As she hurried to get up the demon pushed her back down again and held her by the shoulders.
" That was fun while it lasted." He said none to nicely. " Now hand it over."
The demons grip was way to hard on her shoulders and his hands were digging into her cuts he and his buddies had put there not to many nights ago. Wait, she thought why was he alone. Probably to draw less attention. Forgetting that, Carly bite her lip in pain but still never handed over the knife. Instead she was going to put the knife to the test.
She raised her arm and slammed the knife down at the demon. The knife jammed right into his arm and he let go of her and cried in pain. The knife had lite up orange and so had the demons skin on his arm. It did work! There was hope after all!
"Why you little-!"
Carly hauled the knife back and while the demon held his arm she shot up from the floor and darted down the stairs, taking two steps at a time. But the demon recovered fast and was almost on top of her again. She made a sharp turn toward the office, almost slipping on the floor, and threw the door open. She had to get her bag and get the hell out of there! NOW! The bag not only held her weapons but also the demon book they had found at the warehouse. She couldn't leave it behind!
Carly ran over to her bag and put it on her back, but when she went to turned around she let out a yelp as two strong arms lifted her up and threw her against the wall. Carly hit the wall hard with a tump. Her head was now spinning as she tried to stand up. She should've just ran for the door and left her bag here but then the book would be lost and the police would know the bag belonged to her. Sure she could have left the book at the motel but it was too important to be left alone, anyone could've stole it.
The demon walked over to her and hauled her to her feet. Holding her by the shoulders once again.
"Now," He said pushing her harder against the wall. " I'm getting fed up with you, give me the knife and..," he looked at her bag. Carly closed her eyes, he knew she had the book.
" The book you and your friends stole from us."
" Not a chance." Carly raised the knife once again but this time the demon caught her wrist and twisted her arm.
She let out a cry of pain and fell to her knees, he laughed. He grabbed the knife with his other hand, and hauled her up by her arm and threw her over the desk. The pens and papers that were on it went flying and Carly landed on the floor. Her cuts that had half healed from the ware house tore open again and blood pored out of them. She put a hand to her head and when she took it back, it was full of red sticky liquid. Blood.
Carly heard the demon step toward her and just when she thought he was done, he drove the knife into her arm. Her skin bubbled and burned.
" So that what it does on human skin," The demon said thoughtfully smiling at her pain. "good to know."
Carly suddenly saw a flash of red in his eyes as he laughed, no it couldn't be..., it had to be the way the light hit his eyes, his eyes were black. The pain was getting to her brain now and messing up her vision.
The demon bent down at eye level with her and grabbed her face, so she'll look at him.
" you'll never win," Carly coughed out. " I'll find a way to stop you."
"Oh but Carly, I already had." He smiled evilly. " and as for you stopping me, us. Don't try to be the hero because you know what happens to heroes, they die."
With that he let go of her and reached into her bag, and got the book. Then got up and left the room.
NO! Carly's brain was screaming at her, don't give up not now, not when you where so close!
Some how, determination filled her bones and blocked the pain out, her arm burned and her head spun but her legs still worked perfectly fine. Carly stood up and ran out the room. She ran into the room that she had come into from the window and saw the demon half way out it. He smiled and jumped out and she went right after him.
Carly had to get him now before he teleported away! She ran up on back of him before he snapped his fingers to teleport away and jumped on his back.
They rolled around the grass and in front of the museum as Carly tried to get the knife out of his grip."You came back for more did you? He grunted out, " This time I'll sure to kill you, coming after me, rookie mistake!"
Just like that Carly was threw across the lawn by the his demon powers knocking her head off of a tree. He got up and looked at the sky and Carly heard him curse.
" Me and you," he said with warning in his dark black eyes. " I'm sure we'll met again, but for now.." He laughed, " I need to go."
With a snap of his fingers he was gone, with the knife AND the book.
Carly looked up at the sky to see that it dawn and that the sun was starting to peep out from behind the hills. A new day was starting.
She got up slowly and through her arms up in defeat. All the time she spend on getting that knife, all the planing and it was gone, along with the book.
In the sea of disappointment going on in Carly's brain she suddenly stopped, how did that demon know her name? Surely the big guy told his demons who she was since they knew he killed her sister right? But Carly wasn't so sure. Demons don't bother with names so why did this demon know?
Maybe she was in way in over her head with this. Demons knowing her name is so not good. He also didn't teleport right away when he got the objects, why wait till going outside? Carly looked at the large building, was it warded? Not to mention that demon was stronger and more powerful than any other demon at the warehouse that night. He had to be Higher ranked, that had to be it, right? His eyes were black, she kept telling herself, his eyes were black. He wasn't the one who killed your sister.
With no book, no knife, and no evidence of the demon markings left. Things seemed hopeless. So many questions, no answers. Carly had to turn back to her friends but they wouldn't help, they'll laugh right in her face. So what did she have left? Nothing.
Carly was just lucky to be to alive.
