Once myself and Maddie were in the car and on our way my mom immediately calmed down,
'Look, I am sorry for everything that has happened between, well myself and your father' she said awkwardly her eyes searching for ours.
'I know this isn't easy, but this could be a chance for the both of you to really put yourself out there and make friends, you know?' She said whilst looking at us through the reflection of the rear-view mirror.
Neither of us replied, Maddie's lack of reply I'm assuming is from being tired considering she would never deliberately ignore mom.
Me, because well, I was pissed. My life was being turned upside down, and there was nothing I could do to slow it down let alone stop it altogether. So instead of articulating this, I stayed quiet. The entire car journey to the new school; quiet.

Within minutes we had arrived, and almost like a blur I was walking down corridors with timetables and books in my hands and people bustling into me. If this is what I had left to expect for my last year of high school, I was not looking forward to it, not one bit.

After walking into several of the wrong classes I finally found Biology in room 54, but I was late.
With my head hanging low I handed my slip to my teacher, Ms.Prendergast outlining the fact I was new, she assigned me a seat beside a rather peppy young boy who she called Troye.

'Hey nice to meet you I'm Troye, but you ya hunk of fabulousness can call me 'pastel princess'', with a quick wink and a rather bright twinkle in his eye Troye outstretched his arm and gave a very firm handshake as if to confirm he was indeed a 'pastel princess'.
I honestly couldn't help but smile at him, his enthusiasm was contagious, like a disease I didn't want to find the cure to. It was nice to smile for once.

'So, your name is, what exactly?' Said Troye with eager eyes, his head propped against his elbows,
'I-I'm Tyler' I replied trying to return his enthusiasm but failing miserably and stuttering in the process.
Whether Troye noticed this or not he did not acknowledge it, which I was so grateful for, he continued the conversation making me feel at ease with each question he asked.
'So Tyler, just want to put this out there because well if you haven't already realised, well, I'm gay.' His tone was so matter-of-factly, so straight cut, so admirable.
'My reason for asking you this' he said, 'Was to know exactly where you lie on my 'Gaydar', ya know, see who I can fix you up with', his eyes were full of mischief and with his eyebrows wiggling up and down I couldn't help but start laughing.
'I'm gay' I replied with a laugh, before throwing my hands over my mouth.

Did I just tell him I'm gay? I've never told anyone. What? Oh my god? What the hell Tyler! Keep your mouth shut. Oh my god. What do I say. What?! Oh my god...

'I-I've never ac-actually said that out loud b-before' I said stuttering to Troye,
Troye nodded with a sense of 'been there, through that' look on his face.
'Nothing to be ashamed of Tyler, there's plenty of queers in this school! Ya just need me to steer you in the right direction, ya know, who's hot? Who's not? Who just wants to get in your pants, etcetera, etcetera....'

My anxiety eased immediately and a sort of weight I guess you could say, felt like it was lifted from me after I said those two words, it was sort of peaceful.

The biology lesson continued but I couldn't pay attention because Troye kept interrupting every few seconds to ask more questions. Eventually when the bell rang Troye invited me to sit with him and a few of his friends at lunch, I accepted graciously and then began the search for Maths in room 49.
