"Where did you go last night?"
She heard his elder brother from the door, and felt before actually seeing his stare directed at her.
She had never been moved by his concern before. But today, she felt like crying again hearing his voice.
But she decided not to bother anybody. Its faster to forget it ever happened if she was the only one who knew.
"Give me a favor and leave. I need to sleep."
"Um. How did half of the Red Velvet cake in the fridge vanished overnight?"
Great. Even motherly Daisy is here to bug her. If she didn't act normal, she would know in an instant.
"I thought it was supposed to be mine, Daisy."
Daisy crossed the long corridor from her kitchen to her bed and held Lillian's face, "You're supposed to be a killjoy about comfort food, Lillian."
She tried all her best to be nonchalant and hugged her, "Good night. I'm sleeping again." She jumped to her bed before she can react and added, "Make sure to lock the door."
The couple were dumbfounded. They both know that something's wrong. Lillian was acting too normal after leaving with a guy last night.
They were used to her being an iceberg even after something big happened in the past. She rarely become flustered or chatty. And she almost always shoo them away when they enter her spacious, but lonely apartment.
But today is different. Her version of acting normal wasn't convincing at all.
"Should I find out who that guy is?"
"No. She'll choke us if we interfere. You know how your sister is."
Jon sighed, "I guess it is high time we both stop worrying about her and start thinking about us instead."
She nearly choked on her coffee. "What- What were you saying?"
Jon grinned at Daisy, "You heard me all right."
She reluctantly looked at him, "What do you mean by that?"
"Are you planning to break up with me?"
Daisy froze. He saw the plane ticket. He knew she was leaving for England.
"I............."
"Your parents are apparently still serious about that fixed marriage stuff."
She bit her lip.
His hand kept tightening in its grip on the diner table every second.
"I'm going to marry someone else." Daisy met his gaze. "I saw the ring, Jon."
His surprise turn into amusement, "Do you think marriage proposals in diners are a bit of cliché, Daisy?"
She laughed at his sarcasm, "Shut up and just do it, Jon Bowman."
His rogueish grin got replaced with a real smile that was just for her to see. "As you wish......." faking an English accent, he continued, "......my lady."
He knelt, and soon the diner were filled with happy applause.
