The day my parents passed away I became government property. Everyone told me I would become a hero. Sitting in back of a transport vehicle filled with people my age didn't make me feel like a hero, but instead like a prisoner.
Courage Academy is a government funded school that trains young adults. Boys are taught to become the best soldiers and the most powerful politicians. Girls are taught to be the world's best doctors and the most selfless aid workers.
Growing up I didn't want to be any of those things. I dreamed of travelling the world taking photos along the way. I couldn't wait to live a free life, but know I'm stuck with no escape destined to serve the government. I didn't leave a lot back home besides my parents that were now gone. Socializing wasn't really my thing; I would much rather go on a walk and explore the mountains than go to parties or the mall. I knew a few people that I would talk to in class but no one I'll miss or miss me.
They told us the ride should only be a few hours long, but it feels like ages. No one actually knows were the academy is located so there is no telling how much longer it will be. I decide to try and talk to someone and at least know a friendly face.
"Hey I'm Ava." I greeted the boy that sat besides me.
"Hi I'm Ever." He sighed.
I can't blame his tone none of us came from the best circumstances.
"So what do you think you'll be?" I hope I don't seem rude. He just didn't seem to be the fighting type so maybe some form of a politician.
"I don't know and don't really care. " He retorted.
"Sorry I didn't mean to be rude. " I apologized.
After that our conversation died down. From the front of the vehicle we heard them say we were almost there. Everyone sat quietly anxiously awaiting our arrival. After about ten minutes we felt he truck come to a slow stop.
Well I guess we arrived.
