Chapter 2
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating. Sometimes I wish someone up there will find me.
--
I looked out the window and sighed. It was 6.30 p.m. already and I knew mom would kill me. The sky looked cloudy which was unusual and I knew it was going to rain. I sighed, closing my eyes as I pressed my forehead against the cold window. I was working since 4 and now I felt tired as hell, feeling my eyes droop. An hour into work, Jackson convinced me to hang out at a party with him and I don't know what got into me but I agreed. Immediately I was surrounded by numerous high schoolers, partying, dancing and getting hopelessly drunk. Everyone seemed to be having fun which was enough for me to enjoy my night without them noticing my presence.
"Tonight looks bad; it'll probably rain." Jackson sighed heavily, keeping his eyes on the road.
I shifted in the car's leather seats enough to look at Jackson's face. "Yeah," I muttered. I took in a deep breath slowly as I stared out the window.
"You feeling okay?" Jackson suddenly asked as he turned the steering wheel with one hand, the other clutching my hand tightly.
I gulped. "Just...Tired," Jackson knew the past few months especially had been hard for me. Concern filled his eyes. "Enough about me though, what's going on with you?''
"Chelsea is so confusing. I want to be casual, I'm a mushroom cloud of casual but Chelsea... she wants to skip to the end, you know, the happily ever after." Jackson said, breathing out heavily.
"So you gonna ask her out?" I asked, playing with the ends of my hair.
"Uh... no," I slapped the back of his head and a laugh escaped my lips as I watched him rub the back of his head. "Ow, ok yes! Wait no! I can't ask her out because if I'm asking her out then I'm ASKING HER OUT! So how do I ask her out without asking her out?" Jackson rambled, running a hand through his messy hair.
I stared at him, dazed. "Jack... are you high?"
Jackson rolled his blue eyes. "I want to be causal so how do I ask her out without being exclusive?"
"You tell her," my eyebrows furred together, like it couldn't be more obvious. I heard him sigh. "But whatever floats your boat," I shrugged pressing my lips together to stop me from laughing.
"Whatevs," Jackson sighed, running a hand again through his messy black hair. "Here we are," He stopped the car in front of my house. The lights were on so I was guessing my mom was working or waiting for me.
"Thanks Jack," I murmured as I undid my seatbelt.
"No worries," He smiled.
I got out of the car and once I reached my porch I looked over my shoulder to see Jackson still waiting for me to go inside safely. He nodded once, and as soon as I walked towards my door and opened it, the Jeep revved forward, accelerating down the street.
