Chapter 6: Truth and Secrets
‘'Nothing can happen more beautiful than death.'' - Walt Whitman
''What did you say Myra?'' he asked shocked. No this couldn't be true.
''Was AZ here? Did he tell you this?" he asked desperate holding my hand.
I stared deep into his brown eyes, they looked so familiar. Once upon a time they were golden green, brighter than the heavenly meadows. His wings were all white, whiter than the snow. His body was marked with the holy words, their scars still visible. He was amaranthine beautifully immortal but now he was just a mortal human.
Tears welled in his eyes, they stared at me begging me not to leave. The more I look at him, the more shameful I feel. No this couldn't be I couldn't be attracted towards a fallen angel. His hand currently held my hand, tears in his eyes. When did he get so weak?
Once upon a time he was the strongest angel I knew, the whole universe laid in his hands but currently his hands held mine. I stepped back, I could feel a turmoil of emotions. Emotions I had never felt before.
''Please let me explain,'' he sighed interrupting my thoughts.
''I..am...was a- an angel..because..'' I couldn't bear to hear the truth, somewhere deep inside me I wanted my thoughts, my assumption to be all wrong but it was the harsh truth. I stared at him, he had changed so much over the years, turning more like humans who I despised.
His lips kept moving uttering some words but I wasn't listening, I was lost in the memories of the past. My ears were not working, my senses were lost, everything around me felt so subtle. I was lost, drowning in my thoughts, my mind was just blank...''How could I make such a wrong choice? How could I be a failure?'' my mind kept repeating.
Everything around me felt so suffocating and then I just ran, forgetting all my sins, forgetting who I was and who I pretended to be, most importantly I tried forgetting him.
Often I heard that ''humans ran away from their problems'' never did I know that I would one day too. My thoughts raced from time to time, everything now seemed like a mistake. I was running like a wild dog in the busy streets, the mortals stared at me internally mocking me. I just ran until my legs came to a halt.
I was stuck in Myra's body I wanted to leave her and go to the place where I belonged, my dwelling between hell and heaven. Currently the mortals stared at me their eyes judging every aspect of me, they thought of me as a human little did their brains knew that I was the very cause of their destruction, the very person who they feared called death.
Again visions of humans clustered in my head, for the past day I was trying to avoid them burdening Jane and of course causing a delay in the deaths of these humans. The ones who mocked me currently made me frustrated and angry. Nothing was happening the way I pictured it. It was my time to show who I was, not a mere human but a power higher called death.
I roamed around trying to find an isolated place to dump this girl's body, everything happened because of her if she hadn't tried killing herself she wouldn't be dead and I wouldn't have met the humanly Gabriel again.
I couldn't go back to Myra's house and dare to see him crying, thinking about what he used to be once upon a time. This time I found the correct place to keep her body, within the woods hoping that no wild animal ate her. Woods were a place humans feared and came hardly in here.
I left her hurriedly and began taking the souls of humans. This time yet again it was my time to take the soul of an old woman who were stuck in a burning house. The house stood burning in front of my eyes, screams of help filled my ears. The old woman stood in an old floral dress, her eyes filled with tears. She was worried about her husband, worried about afterlife.
From her thoughts I could make out that she was a worried lady not clearly happy with her life. Her eyes saw me, they were helpless not exactly welcoming but I was used to such looks. She was a middling, her deeds were neither good nor bad. I took her soul and escorted her to the court of heaven.
Her eyes kept staring at me but she didn't dare to utter a word. I would always think what was so good in human's life that they kept worrying death, afterlife was always a beautiful place where you were free. Free from all your bonds, free from all your responsibilities.
I left her in the court going back to the place I lived. I had made my mind of not going to see Myra and Gabriel. It was a high time to take my responsibilities seriously, no more interruptions, no more humans.
''Hey,'' came a voice, it surely wasn't for me. I was here a lonely soul and kept safe distance from everyone. I kept walking towards my dwelling, ''Wait!'' The voice called out. I stopped and turned around.
There stood a teenage boy grinning like an idiot. What was he doing here?
''Who are you? Do you have any idea who I am?'' I fired him with questions but he dared to answer back.
''I am Jeremy, the deceased guy whose life you took yesterday and currently I am in hell. I know that you are the prettiest death I have ever seen, even though you are the only death I know'.' His reply stunned me for a moment and then I realized that he was the guy under drugs whose soul I took away.
''What do you want? I don't have those substances for you. Now just clear my way.'' I commanded him but he dared to stare at me. ''I have a deal for you.'' He could help me in some way.
''Follow me,'' I said and began walking to the place I lived. He followed me step by step and then we came to a halt. I entered my room his footsteps trailing behind.
''Sit,'' I ordered him. He sat on a wooden chair.
''Why this place?'' he asked.
''Because I don't want anyone to hear what we are talking about,'' I replied annoyed. How dumb could humans be? He stared at my room, staring at the golden black walls.
''What deal do you have for me?'' I asked him diverting his attention.
''Uh, anything at all. I just want my old life back,'' he replied. He was seriously getting on my nerves.
''That's not possible, now you can just get out. You are wasting my precious time,'' I scolded him.
''Okay fine. Can you at least tell my mother that I am not dead and hide my body somewhere.'' he said in a plain tone.
''Why should I help you?'' I asked him.
''I can seriously help you. Perhaps tell you about your enemy.'' Hearing this made my ears stood up.
''How do you know about my enemy?'' I asked him curious, he smirked back and said ''I know almost everything.'' He could be quite useful for rendering information.
''Do you know Myra?'' I asked him.
''Who..?'' he asked clueless.
''Myra she is in hell with you, I don't know on which level but you need to find her.'' I ordered him.
''And...?'' he asked.
''Make friends with her and ask her about Gabr....no.. Briel.''
''Okay,'' he nodded. “But how does she look?'' he asked. Her face picture clear in my head, I was her everyday.
''Blonde curls, blue eyes and short height'' I replied blandly.
''Okay but I want my work to be done first,'' he argued.
''Don't forget who you are talking to...I am your master and you are my secret servant,'' I said authoritatively.
''So deal?'' I asked.
''Deal,'' he sighed. I always got what I wanted.
''Keep this a secret. Now you are dismissed.''
