"Ann, you have seven voicemails on your office phone," Suzy informed me. "I heard your phone ringing while you made Lucinda's coffee and each time the light came up."

"I need to make faster coffee, I guess. Well, thanks for letting me know. How's your wedding going?"

"Is that your subtle way of asking if I've snitched on Lucy yet?"

"Yes, but you know what, I don't want to know. I'm happy in my own life, and you will do right by Robert."

"I'm telling him today," Suzy said. "So hopefully the bitch comes clean."

"She's not a bitch, Lucy is just insecure."

"Sure...Ann, you're too nice. She is a total..."

"Anyways, I am good without the details," I said. "I have my own wedding to plan for my favorite bride."

"Are you seeing Mr. Bass this week?"

"I don't know," I said. "I hope so, considering he has to go back on tour soon. I haven't even considered how I'll deal with the long distance..."

"Well, when I get the permanent position, you can hit the road with your boyfriend."

"Or when I get the job, I'll make sure to send you a sympathy fruit basket."

"We'll see," Suzy said. "If one of the twigs gets it, we can plot our revenge together."

"I better check my messages," I said. "Ten Bucks says three of them were from Lucinda asking why it takes so long to make coffee. There were seven people in line in front of me for the Keurig machine!"

I picked it up and listened. Sure enough, two messages were from Lucinda ranting about some silly situations.

I picked it up and listened. Sure enough, two messages were from Lucinda ranting about some silly trivial issues. The third message was from Lacy, who had some questions about the wedding planning. The fourth, fifth, and sixth message were from potential new clients who'd been referred to me by the one and only Lacy Calvin. I guess she wanted to help me out, I thought. I wrote down all of the information and smiled, feeling triumphant. If even one of these leads set up an event, I'd be in the lead for the internship contest. The seventh message was a cryptic voicemail from Lucy, Robert's fiancé. Apparently, we had an appointment at 8:30, and it was 8:15. I looked over at Suzy's desk, but she'd slipped away on some business. So much for butting out of Robert's life. I had fifteen minutes, and that gave me enough time to call Lacy back.
