Hi, I'm the author; Rose. This first chapter is just setting the story up! Please give the second chapter a chance as well! I would assume Rene will have a longer part than Cameron because hers has a big story within it. Normally I would be splitting the 2 perspectives into different chapters but since I wanted to give you a better idea of the characters I did it in one. Be warned that this story will have mature language and themes so read with caution :)

Part 1: Rene

Let's get one thing clear: I don't like being told in the middle of the year that I'll be moving halfway across the country. But let's be honest, what 17 year old does? Well that exact thing happened to me. No warning. No sugar coating it. Just me coming home from school, which I liked very much, and my mum letting me know that we were leaving and there was nothing I could do about it.

Right, so let me take a quick break to introduce myself. My name is Rene Pennsal. I'm 17 years old. I live with my mum and visit my dad every second weekend with my 16 year old brother.

They got divorced about a year ago but to be perfectly honest I prefer it when they're apart. I know, big shocker there. But, seeing them constantly fighting gave me severe migraines and stress, landing me in hospital on more than one occasion. My parents knew they were the problem however they chose to ignore it. Until they didn't.

Dad packed his stuff, moved out and signed the divorce papers a few weeks later. My friends were very supportive and kept going on about "if I needed to cry I could" or "that they understand what I'm going through". They obviously didn't hear me when I said it would be better for everyone that this had happened. They're good friends though. But yeah, that's enough introduction.

So as I was saying, I came home and and my mum told me, In the most nonchalant way that we were moving.

~ 2 days earlier ~

"Hey mum, hey Jake," I breezily walked into the kitchen, dropping my school bag in the corner, "how was your d-".

I stopped dead in my tracks as I realised that half the contents of the kitchen had been put into boxes carelessly around the room. All the plates, all the pans... all the memories.

Mum stared at me from behind the kitchen bench. Boxes were on either side of her and I noticed how bare the entire room looked. Jake looked quickly around the room and then walked swiftly out the door, his expression stony.

I stared back at her, searching for explanation in her eyes. I came short, finding worry and a twinge of sadness, but no explanation.

I broke the silence.

"Mind explaining to me what the fùck is going on here?" I gestured around the room.

"RENE! Mind your tongue." Mum eyes flashed angrily, but then returned to the worried, sad look only a moment later.

"Mum, seriously. Why is our kitchen packed up? Are we renovatin-"

"Rene, we're moving." My eyes snapped back to her. Whatever worry and sadness in her eyes had left, and in their place was a hard, cold look.

"Your room is already packed up. Say goodbye to your friends. We leave in half an hour. Be at the airport, Rene." As she said this she stood up and went out the same door Jake had gone through moments before.
