Imagination set free

So Esdyr flew. In and through the clouds, so effortlessly. I watched the tiny farm house and my mother disappear into the distance. He coo-ed at me with happiness, and I could see right there that my imagination was soaring completely free.

Then he descended, faster and faster, unlike anything I had experienced before. We came to a castle of some sorts, made entirely of yellow toned stones. He beat his wings slowly to steady himself, then settled down on the large foyer ahead. A man stood with his arms crossed as if he had been waiting for us.

I climbed off of Esdyr, and was later greeted by him in the friendliest manner. "You must be Alana."

I took his hand as he guided me inside. "Yes, and you are?"

"David."

I froze completely.

"Is something wrong dear?" He said looking at me.

"That is... well was... my father's name." I said as my voice began to crack.

"Well I am your father." He smiled.

The feeling at that exact point was indescribable. I was filled with joy, anger, and subtle bits of terror. "But my mother said that I killed you with my dragons."

He took me over to a large dining table that could most probably feed a feast of 50."Your mother, she doesn't appreciate your ability. She thinks people like you are dangerous. She wanted to keep you away from me so you could grow up normal and not learn of your ability."

"What do you mean people like me? Are you one of them, do the dragons you draw come to life as well?"

He chuckled slightly. "Oh no. It is your mother whom you get this gift from. I just train you all on how to craft the gift to the best of your abilities."

I was shocked. "Why would she hide this from me! We could have both embraced it together... as a family."

The sadness could be seen in his eyes. "I wish she would come to terms to love her ability rather than fear it. These dragons represent you. Shunning them away builds up negative energy that if expressed at the wrong time, can create a demon dragon."

"That story. It was about her. She created a dragon that caused destruction."

He placed his hand over mine. "Yes. In this world, you do not need to draw to summon. You can do that with your mind and it's a tricky skill. When you were a baby, after years of supressing her ability, your mother created a dragon that almost killed you. She was scared, so one night she was gone."

There was a sense of determination within me. I knew that whatever the circumstance, I was not going to let my mother hide away this beautiful talent. "I am going to bring her back, and I'm going to help her not fear her own imagination." I said while getting up.

He smiled at me like a proud father. "Take one of my students with you. He knows enough on how to summon safely."

From behind the wall appears a young man, someone I recognized almost immediately.

"Hello, my name is Peter. I'm going to help you show the world the talent of a dragon summoner."

"Oh, Peter with the pretty boy hair", I blushed at the slip of my tongue.

He chuckled. "Ready to help your mother realize her potential?"

I nodded. I was so ready. We ran out to the empty field. With a steady mind, and a creative nature by heart, I did the unimaginable. I summoned Esdyr to appear.
