Remember When

Part 10

Richard woke up to the sound of Maine moaning. He looked up and saw that she was having some dreams. He took her hand. He found her unconscious in her room earlier. He quickly took her and carried her to her bed. Arthur, meanwhile, was fast asleep. He never knew what was going on with his mother.

Richard went to call Maine's father, who was there in an instant. They called her doctor who came an hour after and checked on Maine. She was awake that time and talking to her doctor. Richard was beside Arthur, who was still sleeping. He took the chance to stare at his son and how he longed to hold him in his arms. But he had to wait. Someday, he would be able to do that. Him and Maine. Right now, he had to wait.

When the doctor left, Maine was back to sleeping. Richard asked Jaime if he could watch over her, and promised that he would not do anything that might strain Maine and her condition.

"I don't know but I have this feeling that I should trust you. If you need anything, do not hesitate to knock on the door. I'll reassure Lynda that Maine is fine," Jaime gave him a pat on the shoulders and left the room.

He settled himself beside her bed.

He fell asleep watching her sleep.

And now, he woke up to her dreaming. When she gasped aloud and woke up suddenly, he watched as she slowly oriented herself with her surroundings. In bated breath, he waited. Her eyes were wide. He could see the fear in her eyes. He saw tears began to fall and he ached to reach out and wiped it away.

But he had to wait, even if it takes forever.

When she finally turned her head when she sensed that she was not alone, her eyes settled on his.

Richard was still holding his breath, not knowing what was bound to happen. They stared at each other for a long while.

And in her eyes, he knew the answer. The curve in her mouth gave him the assurance. He has long been waiting for this. He smiled back at her.

"RJ..." Her arms extended towards him.

In one swift moment, he leaned down and kissed her on the lips.
