Maine watched as the sun set. The shadows of its rays glimmered in the deep blue waters in the western part of the island of Mykonos where the villa was situated. Soft, sea breeze blew softly, giving her a warm afternoon greeting. She closed her eyes. She thought that the sight of the ocean would scare her away, remembering that horrible day when she was thrown off board and she faced the most terrifying ordeal in her life. She struggled in between trying to stay afloat and releasing herself from the ropes that tied her hands. Thankfully, it was loose. The heavens might have pitied her. Once she was back on the surface, she turned and saw that the yacht was already speeding away. She was left alone. She was very scared but she had to be brave enough to survive. The waves started crashing around her. The wind was playing with them mercilessly. She tried to swim her way to somewhere to survive. She had to. She didn’t want to die like this.

“Maine…” That voice called softly to her.

She opened her eyes. Richard was looking at her. Worry crossed his handsome face. He held her face and gently wiped the tears that she didn’t know has already streamed down her cheeks. “I can still remember what happened.”

“We can leave if you want, if this terrifies you.”

She shook her head. “I want to overcome this,” she smiled. She held his face. “You’re with me. That’s enough strength for me to go on, RJ.” A week after her memories returned, Richard wanted to take her home back to Italy. But she said that she wanted to go to Greece for a while. She wanted to face her nagging fear of the ocean, the place where she used to love. Her husband hesitated at first, but when they consulted a specialist in the hospital and deemed it was okay for her healing, he flew his small family to Greece via his private jet.

And here she was, staring at the ocean and conquering the fear that gripped her heart ever since she regained her memories. She was stronger and more confident now, because Richard was here, along with their son. She smiled at her husband.

“I am fine now.”

Richard finally gave in to a smile, sighing in relief in the process. She knew how much he suffered, too, and how much he was willing to wait for her. She knew how much he could do to make her remember all the times they had. She knew how much he was willing to remind her his love. She would always feel as if her heart was bursting at the seams for all the love he had for her, at the thought of the many ways he planned to make her remember.

Richard wrapped his arms around his wife. He kissed her on the forehead. “I love you, Maine. Welcome back.”

Maine’s eyes were blurred with tears once again. "I love you, Richard." Wrapping her arms around his neck, she reached up to kiss Richard on the lips.
