DAY 2 - THE DATE

I woke up to the sound of waves, the most beautiful sound in the world. Dreams merged into the sounds of reality as I broke the surface of sleep. I opened my eyes easily, having had a good sleep. So good that I remembered my dream about Alakai... I blushed at the memory.

The sunlight was pouring softly through the light curtains, and there were no sounds coming from outside my doors - in fact, they were partly open, giving me a slight view of the suite.

I stretched and got out of bed, curious to see where Mom, Dad, and Lizzie had gone. I opened the glass doors, walked out to the balcony, and felt the cool breeze brush my blonde hair over my shoulders. I shivered, in a good way. I closed my eyes and stood there for a minute, leaning against the railing, just smelling. Taking in this scent that I'd remember forever. When I opened my eyes, I saw open ocean, mountains, and the pool down below. I put my arms down, and leaned over the railing, watching the people below. They probably couldn't see me in my daisy dukes, tanktop, and bunny slippers. Yes, bunny slippers. I'm just that cool.

At that moment, nothing bothered me - I wasn't worried about my social or academic life - so it was nice to be able to take my mind off things and enjoy this week of relaxation.

I was staring down below, lost in my own thoughts, when something caught my eye. I leaned a bit further over, gripping the railing. I squinted. Was that...?

Oh no. Alakai was waving at me, a huge grin plastered on his face.

How. Embarrassing. He had just seen me in my pyjamas.

I blushed, and waved back sheepishly. "I'm gonna... go inside..." I murmured, pointing my thumb towards the doors. I rushed in and collapsed on my bed with a moan. Alakai had seen me in my pj's! I hadn't even been wearing a bra. Sooooo pro, Penny.

I guess he was probably expecting me to come down, so I figured I should hurry the hell up. But I was still curious as to where the rest of my family was.

I walked out into the main area of the suite, but it was empty. I walked up some steps to the kitchen, and found a yellow post-it on the counter.

Good morning, Penny! We're down getting some breakfast. It's currently 7:30 am, so we'll probably be back up in an hour. If you're not down by then, we'll bring you up some breakfast.

Love, Mom, Dad, and Lizzie

I looked at the time on the microwave. 8:00 am. So I had half an hour. I went back to my room and into the bathroom.

I took a shower, and dried my hair, making it fluffy and natural. I brushed my teeth, and for fun, sprayed a little Hawaiian Lily perfume on my neck and wrists. The scent was nice - a little hint, not too much that would overwhelm the air. It was a delicate smell.

I got dressed in white booty shorts and a light green tanktop with designs on it. I put my sunglasses on my head. I slipped on my flipflops, grabbed my purse, and went to the elevators. I waited awkwardly beside some fat guy, listening to elevator music, and rushed out as inconspicuously as possible. I hated elevators. Not that I was scared - it's just that they were so awkard to be in. Really.

I made my way to the lobby, and went up to the concierge desk. No one was there. I waited for a couple of seconds, and saw that no one was there, so I hit my hand on the bell. TING!

I shrieked. "Why must our hellos and goodbyes always be you scaring me?" I said, laughing.

He made a lopsided grin. "I'm sorry, scaring people isn't normally a habit of mine, but you always seem to be... uh..."

"In the wrong place at the wrong time?" I offered.

"I guess?" he said. He laughed. "I liked your pyjamas this morning. Bunny slippers. I thought girls only wore those in movies." He chuckled and bent down, getting something in the cupboard on his side of the desk. He brought out a bowl of Hawaiian hard candies, putting the bowl on the smooth wood surface. I tried not to be mortified.
