Lakshmi
We get to the mall, driven by one of Sabeen's mom's and we get out, thanking her, and walk in through the food court entrance to out very small mall.
In our small town of Lochmor, Maine, we have to go to the next town over, Kittery, to get to the mall. It may be small, but it's the only thing we've got, and all of us cherish it.
Sabeen and I weave our way through the all the happy couples and families eating at tables, and suddenly I feel skin-on-skin contact, and I'm jolted out of my people-watching as I notice that Sabeen has taken my hand to guide us through the crowds.
I keep following her as we seem to head towards the Sephora, our supposed next destination, but all my mind is think is hand hand hand hand.
It's not like I like her or anything.
Psshh, no, nothing like that, it's just a best friend sort of thing. We're in a crowded mall, and I'm claustrophobic.
Yup, yup, *hand hand hand hand*

I let go of Lakshmi's hand as we get to Sephora, and I try to look at all of the infatuating makeup, but I can't help but feel Lakshmi's warm, brown skin still on mine.
I try my best to ignore it as we weave our way through delectable racks and rows of expensive foundations, concealers, highlighters, and so much more that we will never be able to afford even in our best lives.
We finally come to the Sephora brand section, and I pick out a couple fun and colorful 10 dollar eyeshadows.
Lakshmi looks likes she's picked up a brand name bronzer and I ask her if she's ready to go.
"Yeah, let's go pay for this stuff."
She smiles and I feel my insides warm up as we make our way to the counter to pay for our makeup.

I can't help but feel a little disappointed that Sabeen hasn't taken my hand again as we walk through the mall, trying to figure out another place to go after our Sephora trip.
I push it to the back of my mind as we keep making our way through the small mall.
All bad things have been pushed to the backs of minds and we have just decided to go to American Eagle when I hear it.

"What's under that dress sweetie, huh? And you, I'd love to see under that sweet shirt of yours!"
I grab Lakshmi's hand as my head whips around so fast I think I might get whiplash.
My eyes frantically search the area around the food court and AEO, but I see no one that matches the supposed face of the disgusting voice I heard.

Hey guys!
I hope you liked this fairly-long-kind-of-short-but-not-that-short chapter.
The subject that has been posed in this chapter, catcalling, is one that I take very dear to heart, as I am a feminist and I know that women are people, they're human, and not objects.
Thank you to anyone who reads and I love you all.
Xoxooxo,
Soph😇
