you treat me like a snack |When we get back to my place, I dash upstairs to place the items my mom wanted on the edge of her bed. She and Melvin are driving up to New York tomorrow to spend a couple days with his family. He moved back to Maryland a few years ago and has been feeling especially bad that he's been missing Hanukkah with his family, so Mom surprised him with an eighteen day trip. She's been saving up as many sick days as she can since they've gotten together.
Going back to the guys in the living room, they are looking around in awe.
"You've got a fireplace," Ariel points, it's over by the television.
"Do you wanna put it on?" I ask him, as he and Holden take off their shoes.
"No, I'm warm," he says.
"You guys want something to drink?" Freya has always praised me for being a good host.
"Please," Holden accepts.
The two of them follow me into the kitchen, sitting at the island as I head over to the fridge. And I have to say I didn't give it much thought before letting two semi-strangers into my home. One could easily be a vampire. Or both I don't know. "We've got water, orange juice, grape juice, cran-grape juice, pinot noir, Red Stripe, lemonade, Pepsi and soy chocolate milk," I turn to the boys.
"Water for me," Ariel says.
"I'll take a lemonade," Holden half-smiles.
I take out a bottled water and lemonade juice box, handing it to the boys and grabbing a water bottle for myself. "How long have you guys known each other?"
"Since May," Ariel states without hesitation.
The sound of Holden sipping air from the bottom of the juice box breaks a silence just as the front door is being opened. More than one voice is heard and I look around the corner to see Ace isn't alone.
Albert and another boy, someone with dreads walks in behind him and they take off their shoes. I lean my shoulder up against the wall, crossing my arms, "How was work?"
Ace looks up, rolling his eyes, "She had a boy, like you care," he walks up to me, looking past my shoulder to see Ariel and Holden sitting at the island. "Since when do you have friends?"
I scowl, meeting Albert's gaze and he lifts his hand to wave at me. "Hello."
I shoot him a smile, "Hi," I say before watching Ace go over to the fridge to grab a few beers, even the pinot noir.
"I'm sorry, remind me how old you are." I project.
"Sorry, I didn't know you were my mom," he kids, handing the beautiful boy with the dreads a beer.
"Who are you?" I ask him.
He looks up and points to his chest, "Hello, peace to you. I'm Graham." He gives me a foolish grin, taking another bottle and somehow uncapping it with the other cap.
