February 15th 1926

Third person POV
The two boys walked down the street that lead to Bucky's house, Steve had his arm around Bucky's shoulder because he was having some difficulties to walk
"So how old are you kid?" Asked Bucky
"I'm 7, I'll turn 8 in July"
"That's good! I'm 8, my birthday is on March"
When they got to Bucky's house, his mom was outside playing with Rebecca (Bucky's little sister)
"James where have you been and what happened to you and your friend?"
"His name is Steve, I was on my way to the groceries store when I found him, he was in trouble with some older kid and I helped him"
"Oh boys, come in, let's get you two cleaned up, and it's very nice to meet you Steve" she said while taking Rebecca inside the house and closing the front door
"Nice to meet you too ma'am"
It wasn't a big house but it seemed to be nice and welcoming with enough space for the family to live there comfortably
"Take Steve to the bathroom, you already know where the first aid kit is, wait for me and I'll be there in a minute"

Bucky and Steve entered the bathroom and Steve sat on the small counter while Bucky took the first aid kit out of a cabinet
"So... Steve do you like getting punched?"
"No, nobody does but I saw that boy disrespecting a girl and I had to do something about it"
"Are you always like this?"
"Not always, besides my mom hates that I get into fights because she thinks I'm fragile but I can handle it!"
"Yeah, you can but you also have to be careful"

Then Winifred entered the bathroom and started to clean Steve's wounds first because the were so much worse than Bucky's. She applied some ointment on his bruises an put a bandage around his knee
After she finished with Steve she did the same with Bucky
"Okay boys I hope you learned how to tend to wounds properly, now do you want some lunch?"
"Yes please!" Said the two while giggling

After they finished eating Winifred said "Steve I think you should get home before your mom becomes worried about you"
"You're right, thank you so much for everything and it was very nice to meet you ma'm and also you Bucky"
"No problem sweetheart, and you are very much welcome here whenever you want to come"
"Thank you! Goodbye Mrs Barnes"
"Bye Steve"
He started to walk out of the house but before he could get to the door Bucky stopped him and said "I'll walk with you, I don't want you to get in another fight"
"I'll be fine don't worry"
"Yeah, that's why I will walk with you, to make sure you're fine"
"Thank Bucky, I don't live far, only two streets away"
