I couldn't breathe. I couldn't see. Why did it feel like my lungs were going to crush any second?

I open my eyes to see no one, and nothing sitting on my chest. Every night it's the same thing. I don't know what it is because nothing is ever there. I wake up exactly at 2:46 every time. It makes no sense... I could always just ask my mom about it because she is a professional when it comes to understanding how people's minds work, but something tells me just not to. So I never will, I guess.

I go downstairs for breakfast to find toast and a sticky note from my mom.

"Hon, I'm gonna be a little late to making dinner! I love you, and be careful today, ok!"

I chuckle seeing that she made sure to make the last part a statement, not a question. It's winter break so, NO SCHOOL! I call my friend Rowan and tell her to pick me up that I have a surprise. After talking for a little, I tell her I'll be spending the night. She agrees and says she'll be on her way.

I text my mom to tell her that I'll be staying at Rowan's house. She texts back saying that's fine and that it will in fact save her from the worry for dinner, anyway. I laugh at her positive attitude, and get ready to go with Rowan.

She picks me up, and I tell her to drive us down to the abandoned building. This is our hang out that we share with two other people. There isn't really anywhere else to go in town anyway.

We go in to find her boyfriend, Emmett, and my other best friend, Kuiper, already there. I had asked Kuiper to bring candles, so I ask him to set them out. I pull a Ouija Board out of my backpack, and set it up. Rowan looks at me in horror asking me if I'm sure about this. I tell her most likely, and continue to pull more chairs over. Kuiper had actually got this for me for an early Christmas gift and I couldn't wait to use it to find out what was happening in my dream, considering it seems pretty paranormal, and I wanna see who is responsible, and their reasoning behind it all.

It starts out normal, but then quickly escalates into something a little more sinister. It talks about things no one should know. Even though it's pretty creepy, it's also pretty embarrassing. At one point Rowan asks if I have a crush on anyone. It shoots to yes and my heart drops to my feet, through the floor. Rowan screams like a fangirl and asks who it is. I hope that it doesn't know that much yet, but of course; I'm all out of luck. It starts to spell out his name, and I wanna run away and cry. Rowan, Emmett, and Kuiper all start to spell out the letters, aloud.

   "K-U-I-P-E-R"

"O-M-G! Niyah! NO FRICKIN' WAY!" Rowan screams and looks at me with a huge smile.

I hurry and put my head down, ready to cry of complete and total embarrassment. I don't dare turn to look at Kuiper's reaction. He probably hates me and is just as embarrassed as me now.

"Niyah... Is it true?" Kuiper asks me.

I don't say anything, worried that if I do, I'll burst into a mess of  flames and tears. Rowan looks about ready to cry too, but for other reasons of course. I throw her a dangerous glare saying that if she says another word, I will kill her.

She gets the message and burst out laughing, hardly able to spit out the words, "Niyah! You're about as scary as a bunny cloud!" After spitting that out, she grabs Emmett's hand, and is instantly out and ditches us. As she leaves, she yells back,

"WE SHOULD DEFINITELY LEAVE THESE TWO ALONE FOR A WHILE!!!"

I really don't care at first, knowing that since she is gone, I can have a break from this horrible subject. But then, of course, I am awakened to the harsh and true reality of life and teen drama, when Kuiper says,

"She was your ride, huh?", with a smirk that makes my heart melt. "If you have to be home now, I could always take you!" He says it with the biggest grin on his face that I just can't resist. I laugh at the thought, and walk out with him, never saying goodbye to the board.

"So... Do you have to be home now?" He asks me while I change the radio station.

"We could always go grab coffee at my aunt's shop?" I suggest.

I laugh at his very awkward attempt, and answer back with, "Yeah! I would love to!"

I started to wonder if that was too forward, when I stop all thoughts and any movement including breathing, when he says, "It's a date then!"
