Prolougue

Val (Valerie) smiled as she put on her winter coat and scarf she opened her window and shouted to her best friend Luke who ever so conveniently lived next door. "Hurry up slow poke I want to play in the snow." she heard him laugh and headed down the stairs and outside to wait for Luke. After almost forever of waiting Luke showed up and headed over to her. "umm don't be mean its not my fault I'm so slow." She laughed and started dragging him to their favorite park that had a pathway of trees. "You are slow mentally and physically" Luke pouted. "Wow now I'm really going to have to take you down in a snowball fight."

They arrived at the park and just went crazy. There were snowball fights, snow angel making, snowman making. They were having so much fun, but then the night grew colder. The sky become the darkest the two had ever seen it. The wind picked up and the street lamps turned on. The street lamps turning on was a sign that they needed to head home but Luke still had something to tell Val and it wasn't good. "Valerie can we talk?" Her smile turned into a frown the only time Luke ever said her full name was if something was wrong. "Of course we can." Luke grabbed her hand and pulled her over to one of the benches that was lining the path of trees. They both sat down and Luke took a deep breath. "The band and I have this amazing opportunity to tour as the opening act for One Direction. I mean yeah our music is nothing like One direction's but still we cant pass it up." Val smiled "Well that's amazing Luke I'm so proud of you guys." Luke frowned and looked down shaking his head. "Val I'm going to have to leave you and I'm sure you know that but its not a little tour I'm going to be gone for almost an entire year." Val felt her heart drop this was the worst timing ever Luke knew that she needed him. "I'm happy for you and the guys go make Sydney proud" A tear slipped down her cheek and she playfully punched Luke in the arm. Then it went silent for a good five minutes.

Luke then punched the bench and stood up "UGH VAL YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO SAY THAT SAY SOMETHING TO MAKE ME STAY. SAY SOMETHING SO I WONT LEAVE" tears started to form in Luke's eyes and he tried not to let them fall. Val stood up and grabbed Luke's hand looking into his sharp blue eyes. "I can't do that to you its not fair to you or the boys. You guys have worked so hard for an opportunity like this and I can't take it away from you." Luke pulled his hands away. "Yes you can all you have to do is say one word just say the word stay and I promise I wont leave you." More tears started to form in val's eyes. "Luke we aren't dating, it is not going to be that hard to leave me the minute you step on that stage I'm old news. I'm not going to tell you not to live your dream go wow the world with your amazing singing and guitar skills I know you can do it" Luke smiled but the tears he had been trying to keep in eventually started to fall. "I promise I will call you whenever I can or even send a text I'm not going to just drop you." Val smiled at him. "Don't make that promise I know it cant be kept and it will make all of this harder. When do you leave?' Luke frowned and looked down at his shoes. "Tomorrow.....I'm not going to lie to you I have known for two weeks it was just so hard to tell you" She laughed. "it's fine I kind of want to walk home alone though so I'm going to take a separate route I promise I will come say goodbye tomorrow" She started to walk away when Luke grabbed her hand. "It's late and dark out I don't want you out there alone." Val smiled at him. "I will be fine Luke." She walked away when tears started to fall down harder she wiped them away and continued the path home. Luke watched her walk away until she could no longer be seen. He slowly started to walk to his house and thought about everything that just went down.

The next day rolled around but Val never did say goodbye to Luke. She stayed up in her window waiting for him to leave through his front door. Luke waited as long as he could but she never showed the boys and his mom told him they couldn't wait any longer. Luke walked out of his house and looked up to Val's window he saw her standing there and motioned for her to come down. She mouthed "No Luke." and shook her head. Luke held back the tears and tried one last time he mouthed the simple word "please" to her and all she did was shake her head no. The tears fell from Luke's eyes as he mouthed the word "Goodbye" and got into the car that took the boys away. Val watched as it pulled away and then fell to her floor sobbing. She had just lost the one thing that made her happy.
