They sat in her living room for hours in utter silence.
Natsu sat beside Lucy on her couch with his bangs covering his eyes. His hands were clasped together as he rested his head upon them and stared at nothing.
Lucy sat straight with her hands in her lap. She couldn't stop looking at them. Her hands. She didn't know where that sudden electric charge came from. And she needed answers.
Lucy jumped slightly as Natsu broke the silence. "We need to call the police."
Lucy widened her eyes. "Whoa! Are you crazy? Didn't you see what I did back there?" Lucy said.
"So?" Natsu said. "It's not like the cops are gonna believe that guy when he says you used your 'powers' to blow him into the wall."
"He could come up with another story."
"Who do you think the Fed's will believe? A junky or a well educated girl?"
"I almost killed him."
"Self defense."
Lucy sighed. "Natsu, no. I'm not gonna take the risk. I mean... I'm scared as hell right now!" Lucy said as she hid her face in her hands.
Natsu looked at her with sad eyes before looking at his folded hands. "Okay..." He said. "We won't call the cops."
Lucy looked at him with hopeful eyes. "Really?" She wondered.
"Yeah." He said and Lucy sighed in relief.
"Thank you." She said.
He was quiet. And then, "Yet." Natsu said
"What?"
"I won't call the police yet. I still think that guy should get locked up for laying a hand on you. " He said with a very light blush.
"Aww~" Lucy swooned. "Does the Natsu Dragneel actually care about me? The very one who hated my guts when we first met?" She teased.
Natsu shifted in his spot. "Shut up." He mumbled and Lucy let out a small laugh before falling completely silent. "What's wrong?" He then asked.
"It's just..." Lucy trailed off. "I don't know why you're still helping me. I mean, you saw what I was capable of back there."
"Lucy." Natsu sighed. "I'm here for you... Even though that thing you did was pretty crazy, I'm not just gonna leave." He assured.
Lucy smiled sweetly. "Thanks." She said thoughtfully. "So, what am I gonna do now? With my new found 'powers' and all."
Natsu thought for a second. "We'll have to keep it a secret." He said. "We can't tell anybody what you're able to do. Who knows what could happen if word gets out..."
"...Yeah..." Lucy said. "But, I mean, that was an accident... What if I do it again?"
Natsu ran his fingers through his hair. "I dont know." He sighed.
Lucy let out a small laugh and Natsu looked at her curiously. "We keep saying I don't know a lot. We have a lot more questions than answers."
"Yeah." Natsu said. "Which is why we're not going to school tomorrow."
Lucy was shocked. "What?" She said and then she realized another thing he said. "Wait... We?"
"Yes we. We'll call in sick tomorrow."
"Well won't that seem suspicious?"
Natsu stood up and crossed his arms over his broad chest. "Who cares if they think it's suspicious. If we don't go, we don't go. Period. So let's not worry about that and worry more about finding answers."
Lucy nodded. "Okay." She said as they sat there and thought.
"Well, " Natsu said as he thought of something. "What are some of your earliest memories? Maybe we could get some clues from that."
"Okay." Lucy agreed. "Well, the earliest thing I remember is before I went into foster care. But it's a little fuzzy..."
"Well then tell me what you can make out. We gotta take what we can get."
Lucy took a second to think. "All I remember is... Falling? And then I woke up in a hospital... There was a doctor... And someone else but I can't really remember." She said.
"Okay, that's a start." Natsu said as he rubbed his chin. "That guy said he's not the only one looking for 'something like you'. Now what did he mean by that?" He wondered.
"I don't know." Lucy said. "But it gives me an uneasy feeling... Like I have to constantly watch my back."
Natsu sat back down by Lucy and looked her in the eye with a serious expression. "Nothing, is gonna happen to you." He said. "Do you understand me?"
Lucy nodded and looked at her hands again. "I wonder if I can do it again..." She said.
Natsu frowned at her. "Uh, no. Let's not find out." He said and she rolled her eyes.
"Oh relax." She told him as she flipped the palm of her hand upward.
"Uhh, what're you doing?"
"I'm trying to do it again."
Natsu sweat dropped. "Just don't break anything...."
Lucy scoffed. "I won't make any promises."
She stared at her hand hard as she tensed to try and do what she did earlier that night. They sat there for what seemed like forever before Lucy dropped her hand and sighed.
"I can't do it!" She said. "I did do it earlier, right? We weren't just imagining anything?"
Natsu leaned forward. "Try it again. Only this time, don't try so hard." He said and Lucy nodded slowly.
This time she relaxes her arm and looked at it softly. After a small while, golden lightning and little stars zapped between her finger tips. With a shreek, she retracted her hand and they looked at each other.
"That was awesome!" Lucy exclaimed as she opened and closed her hand.
Natsu let out a small laugh. "Okay." He said. "I should get going. I'll be back here tomorrow morning."
"Oh, okay." Lucy said. "Um, bye."
Lucy waved goodbye as Natsu walked out her front door.
... Everything, is going to change for her after tonight...
