During the winter holidays of second year, James and Sirius created their own secret language, a combination of verbal exclamations and erratic hand gestures that made up Jacksotter. They tried teaching their language to Remus in third year, but try as they might, he could never pick it up as well as they had. Jacksotter was so seemingly random and without logic that Remus could never quite grasp it. James and Sirius even tried using the language once to communicate during a potions test, but the lack of subtlety of Jacksotter led to their being caught, though the true reason for their communication has always remained unknown. The use of their language had led to many a trip to the hospital wing, as poor Professor Flitwick feared for the boys' mental stability when the two boys began communicating exclusively in Jacksotter as a dare from Remus, who bet them they couldn't make it a week without speaking proper English. Many quarrels had also risen over the specifics of certain gestures and sounds, leading to weeks of bickering, which ultimately ended in the creation of their very own Jacksotter dictionary, a truly cumbersome task that ensured they would never try creating a language ever again. When Harry was born, they planned to teach him Jacksotter on his twelfth birthday, as they were both twelve when this  language was first created.
