Sarah did not bother to hide her frustration at being caught, she did not try too hide her want to leave, but she did stop to let the sheriff speak. It was, after all, the least she could do for the woman whom had tried to make her feel welcome. Sarah almost felt bad, almost, for being so rude to the people of Storybrooke. Yet she could not muster up enough emotion to do so, it took more effort than she had to give.
"I know what it is like to want to run away from everything, I did for most of my life." Emma began and Sarah could not help but laugh. Was the sheriff trying to sympathize with her? Sarah highly doubted that Emma knew what it was like to run from an enraged Goblin King and hundreds of pasts that she could ever escape.
Sarah wanted to laugh. The situation seemed completely absurd, she wanted to leave the town, and right as she was ready to leave she was faced with an obstacle. She should have known that the world would not have let her sneak away without someone having their say. Still, it reeked of irony, that someone would finally seek her out right as she tried to leave, and Sarah wondered what unexpected thing would happen next.
"You don't have to keep running, Sarah. You don't have to settle here, but you need not be afraid of finding a place to truly call home." Sarah truly did laugh at that. Not run? That was like telling a Priest not to preach. Running was in her nature, it was why she and Jareth worked so well together. She loved to run and he loved to chase. Though only when he knew he could catch her.
Sarah picked up her bag, opened up her back door and turned to look at the young sheriff. Emma was lucky, her parents loved her, she had a great son, and she was a hero. She would always win in the end. Sarah was not a hero, she was not a villain, she was an instigator, she was the jack of the tale, and her ending was rarely happy.
"Oh Emma, I've lived hundreds, if not thousands, of different lives." Sarah said as she dropped her bag into her back seat and ran a hand through her hair. She felt on edge, as if she needed to run, and it was upsetting her. The air held an odd tension to it, an anticipation, almost as it did right before a storm. Yet this tension was a little different and it took her a moment to place her finger upon it. When she did, her heart raced and her longed to jump into her car and drive far, far away. She needed to get rid of Emma and leave.
"I know that it may seem that way, but even if you move a lot and meet many different people-"
"No, Miss.Swan, I have actually lived hundreds of lives. You lot have all been wanting me to share the inner most secrets of my life, so here I go. I am an Old Soul. A being who is born, lives, dies, and is born again. I was first born as a goddess of the sun, my duty was to watch over you mortals, I ushered souls from this world into the next, I blessed infertile woman, and I healed the ill. I had no parents, I had two sisters, and I loved one man." Sarah knew she had to hurry, she could feel his anger, and she could feel him beginning to search for her.
"Sarah-"
Again, Sarah cut Emma off. A strange feeling was forming in her, it felt like anxiety, and Sarah knew she was almost out of time. It would not be long before he found her. "I was a queen once, I was betrayed by the being I loved most, and I lost my kingdom.-"
"Sarah, just come into town and let us talk with you-"
"I am a restless being, Emma, I am a traveler, and I am almost out of time."
"Actually, Sarah-mine, you are out of time." Sarah closed her eyes and let out a sigh. She should have left when Mr.Gold first heard her name. It would have been the wise thing to do, but she had never made a claim at being wise.
"Sarah, who is this?" Emma asked as Sarah shut the back door of her car and turned to face her opponent. A heavy weight seemed to be lifted from her as she took in the Goblin King. It was as if half of her worry had been about when he would appear and, now that he had, she no longer had to worry about it. No, now she just had to worry about escaping and keeping Miss.Swann safe.
