When the final bell rang I closed my gym locker and secured the lock back in place. Gathering my stuff I headed past the stairs and to my locker. Leaning against my locker with his backpack was Lu. He smiled at the sight of me and waved. I waved back as I approached.

"You already got your backpack and stuff. That was quick the bell didn't even ring that long ago." I said as I opened my locker.

He smiled. "I have study hall last so I was able to go to my locker a few minuets early." Lu paused to wait for me to finish shoving all my notebooks into my backpack. "Ready to go?"

I nodded as I closed my locker and turned. "I told my dad that was going to walk home so he shouldn't be here to pick me up but I want to check just in case. He can be a bit forgetful."

Lu let out a short laugh. "Must be who you get your clumsiness from."

I smiled at the comment but shook my head. "No actually. I'm adopted so I can't say I get my clumsiness from anyone. Got no one to blame it on but me." I laughed and skipped through the door.

"You're adopted?" he asked as he walked beside me to the parking lot.

I nodded and quickly check over the parking lot for either family vehicular. "Dad's not here so we can walk now. Anyway, yep. Apparently my birth mother died giving birth to me and no one has any clue who my genetic father is. It's not a real big deal to me. My adoptive parents love me very much." I smiled and pointed to the direction of my house. "I live several blocks that way."

"Well my parents passed away a long time ago. To be honest it was a few billion earth years ago." He stated causing me to stop in my tracks. My eyes were wide as I stared at him with my jaw dropped. "Did I forget to mention I'm only a little older then this planets first form of life?"

My eyes only got bigger as he continued to speak. "Well I guess I can tell you the short version now and the longer one another time." I began to walk again as Lu told me a tale. "To start with, this planet was a gift from my parents. I was entrusted to look over it and protect the living organisms on it. When a planet is made our people can only place life onto it and can't manipulate how it will evolve. Now I actually have an older brother but when my parents passed I inherited almost everything. That made my brother quite upset. When the first few humans appeared he took his anger out on them."

"My brother influenced a small number of them into acts of violence. When large civilizations formed he often caused mass destruction. You can say he is the reason many civilizations fell. I didn't notice until he began to influence religion. He tricked many into believing he was god and that I was the 'devil'."

"Humans are not much different from us. The only difference is magic and lifespan making it easy for us to reproduce together with no effects. My brother used this trait against me. You know the story of the Virgin Mary? Well she was a real person. One my kind on my brother's side used magic to make her believe what the story said happened. The woman birthed a child and as the story goes, she named him Jesus. The child was half human and half one of us. With the influence of my brother he made many believe."

Lu looked away from me and frowned. "Some time later an experiment of my brother's went wrong and he created a crazed mutation out of my kind. He used them to attack people convincing them they were demons. My people took arms and we now fight the mutations giving the people the expression that we were angels. Many, myself included, now call the mutations 'angels' as they are on my brother's side and he is 'God'."

He paused looked to me and his smile returned. "That's enough of that story for now. I can tell you more about it later. Why don't you tell me more about yourself?"

I paused for a moment as I brought my hand to my chin to think. "Like what. What do you what to know?" My face scrunched as I tried to think of something that was remotely as interesting as what he had to say. My life was pretty lame compared to his.

"What about your favorites." He suggested.

I tilted my head to think again. "Well my favorite color is gray and I like learning new things despite the fact that I learn so quickly. My mother said I've been a very fast learner since I was little. I play the cello and do a little singing. Can't say I'm very good at singing. What about you? Do you play an instrument?" I looked to him as we walked.

He smiled before answering the question. "I play quite a few. I'd say my favorite would have to be the flute. When played correctly it sounds quite beautiful. Almost like the wind. Maybe I'll play for you sometime."

I nodded and smiled. "That would be nice. Were almost to my house. Turn right here and its just a few houses down." I did as I had said only to stop in my tracks. An unfamiliar car was parked in front of my house. Two uniformed men stepped out and my eyes widened. "Oh no!"

In an instant I had for gotten about Lu as I dashed down the street. I turned into the yard just as Mom opened the door. I stood frozen as her calm face changed. Her eyes became wide as her hand shot to her mouth. The men hadn't even started talking yet but she knew. I knew and in no time I was at my mom's side enveloping her in a hug that kept her standing. Soon Dad joined us in the doorway and sobs filled the air.

The war had taken my Uncle. He was gone.
