Ezra P.O.V
I went to school on Monday morning, I hadn’t spoke to Javen all weekend. I’d been thinking about him and his species. Vampires were real, I couldn’t believe it but I’d seen it with my own eyes. I eagerly raced to human biology; I had so many questions for Javen. When I walked into class Lisa, Ashton and Sky were all sitting in their seats.
I froze in my tracks staring at Sky, was she a vampire? I couldn’t tell she looked normal just like everyone else, so did Javen and Ashton though… my gaze drifted to Lisa and I wondered if she knew what Javen was, I wondered if she was a vampire herself. And what about Javen’s brothers? They definitely had to be vampires as well.
I sat down and seconds later Nate and Javen walked into the class. Javen threw me a smirk and winked, I couldn’t help the blush that crawled up my skin. How could I still be attracted to him knowing he was a monster? What did that say about me? Javen came and sat next to me, I took my books out of my bag and turned to him.
“Hello Ezra” He said, his voice sounded like honey in my ears. Was it because I knew what he was that he now affected me?
“Javen, how are you?” I asked smiling at him.
He chuckled “I should be asking you that considering…”
“Yeah about that I have questions about you and your k-” I started but he interrupted me. He pressed his finger against my lips, motioning for me to be silent. Then he started writing something down on his notebook before pushing it across the table to me.
We can’t talk about that now, you aren’t supposed to know about us, it’s against the rules. Later.
I looked back at him nodding my head pushing the book back towards him. He tore the page out folding it and putting it in his inner pocket. I assumed that none of his lot knew I knew about them. I smirked and turned back to the look at Sky, I had to make up with her, and I had to warn her about Ashton. There was no way I was letting that monster have my best friend.

I walked around looking at the vast number of books in the room, most of them old and dusty. It was quite a collection they had here. I choose one at random and pulled it off the shelf, it was delicate barely hanging onto the cover. I looked at the cover, the title was in another language, but once I opened the book and flicked threw the pages looking at the pictures I gathered it was a human anatomy book.
“Javen your library is amazing,” I said in awe.
“Hmm” he said, not listening to me. He’d removed a couple books from the shelf and was rummaging threw a safe that was hidden behind them.
After school we’d come to his house to get something, he said he needed it before he told me anything about his kind. I was intrigued yet nervous at the same time. What do I do if he told me something that repulsed me?? Did I get him to take away my memories of it all, and then risk leaving Sky to Ashton or did I just stop talking to Javen and live the rest of my life knowing there were beasties in the world.
“Yes! I found it,” he cheered.
He was holding in his hand what looked to be a jewellery box. He held it out to me I took it from him confused. The box was covered in dust; I blew the lid off before opening it. Inside was a necklace. A long chain attached to some sort of charm, it was heavier than it looked. I took the necklace out of the box and looked at it more closely.
It was a glass dome with a black flower petal in it. When I looked closer the black petal had tiny silver markings and etches on it. It was beautiful, and looked so delicate. It wasn’t much bigger than the top of finger. I looked at Javen and saw he was grinning at me.
