Ok, so I ship chara and shay so now I'm going to tell you the backstory of how they met
Start:
Chara was about to fight Shay, but shay kept pleading for mercy telling chara that she'll do anything if it means she'll live. Of course Chara, wanting to do complete genocide wanted to kill her, but she had an idea. If shay was to be her 'slave' then that's mean that shay would have to obey everything she says. Chara decides to continue with this plan and Shay agrees, so Shay has to gain trust between monster and then chara would kill them. Shay always felt bad but she had to do it knowing that chara had the knife. Shay later on developed feelings for chara, but that was long after she decided to just let monsters live and now chara is a sorta protector to shay.
