Mario was taken aback.
"Um...o-of course I won't fall in love with you!" Mario scoffed, "you think so highly of yourself, don't you?"
Faith smiled, flipping her hair away from her face and shrugged, "just make sure you keep that promise."
"I will," Mario smirked. Faith approved. No feelings, just fun. Mario stood up and moved his chair under the table. He held out his hand and Faith gladly took it. And just like that, they were off.
"We have an hour before the ceremony," Faith said in a hushed tone. Mario looked at her and noticed her scanning the crowd. She seemed so carefree yet confined.
"Do you have something fun to do in mind?" Mario asked. They passed the conga line and were handed some shots. Faith looked at Mario with the small glass in her hand.
"On 3?" Faith shouted through the chaotic noises. There was a lot of singing to the music that was playing.
And on three both of them downed the alcohol. Both of them winced at the strong taste but then laughed it off.
"Another one?" Someone handed them two glasses. Mario and Faith's eyes met and they both shrugged simultaneously. They drank, people bumping into them, drawing them closer.
"Alright, alright," Faith yelled, pulling Mario close as people surrounded them, "what are we gonna do?"
Mario leaned in, their cheeks brushing against one another. Faith almost stepped back from the closeness they were sharing. But Mario held her close and guided her to the back of the vicinity.
He grabbed two glasses of champagne and walked swiftly to an opening in the venue. A small garden with a fountain was ahead of them.
"Oh wow," Faith looked at the scene. He guided her to sit at the edge of the fountain.
"If I fall in, I swear to god, I'll kill you," Faith giggled as Mario feigned pushing her.
"I wouldn't dare," Mario said with a smile. Then they began to talk about the most random things. From ear piercings to their favorite songs to listen to when it was raining.
It was so easy to talk. Especially with the alcohol in their bodies. It was easy for Mario to put down his guard. She was just so charming to him. The way she got passionate about everything, her hands moving as she spoke.
They definitely connected, but Faith didn't make it seem like a big deal. She didn't want to get involved.
In the moment, she had forgotten all about her cancer. Mario Gotze: what a smooth talker.
They talked for what felt like years, but when they heard the music stop and the hushed whispers, Mario knew the ceremony was starting.
If only they could stay there forever and talk like there was nothing wrong with the world. Not a care for all of their problems.
Faith immediately stood up, snapping out of the moment. As they were both a little bit too drunk for a wedding, Faith stumbled to stand and grabbed Mario's arm, who in turn started to wobble on the fountain.
Then Faith regained her balance, only to hear a loud shriek. Her eyes widened and she turned around.
Mario Gotze had fallen into the fountain. She didn't know what was funnier: the sight of him and his expensive suit drenched in the fountain water, or the shrill scream that escaped from his mouth.
"Mario! Oh my gosh!" Faith stifled her giggled, but a few chuckles escaped.
"Damn it! Faith, does this mean I have to kill you?" Mario, although bathing in a fountain, seemed to be enjoying the sight of Faith laughing.
