Forget It

It was tense in the dead silent living room as Echo only glared at my mother in pure hatred.

I hadn't believed a single word my mother had said, of course I didn't. Now she wants to be a mom towards me! After the hell she put me through? Not a chance. Forget it! My life isn't much right now but I've been more successful without her than I would have ever been if she had always been in my life.

I was only putting on this act to maybe stall a little before I muster up a plan to get her out of my life for good. It's getting annoying and frustrating to think that she just keeps poking in and out of my life as if she wants to be in it. But then there's still that question; why is she really here?

I mean, sure she probably really did visit Brad and them at the hospital but that doesn't give her the right to come try and find me. Why did she even want to? And what would she have done if we hadn't ran into her in the woods? Would she have really just walked all the way up to the house and knocked, or did she maybe have a different idea?

Maybe she had been watching us.

I don't know but I decide it's time to stop making so many accusations before I confuse myself.

"So, mom..." I begin right before a phone ring cut in. It wasn't the home line hanging on the wall in the kitchen, it was the cell phone in mom's pocket.

She quickly pulls it out and checks the screen. Rolling her eyes, she answers.

All she got to say was, "hello?" And a few moments later, "Okay, I'll let them know."

I watch as she lowers the phone, her face without expression.

"Everything alright?" I ask.

"Well, that was Brad's mother. She was saying how Brad just woke up in a panic and yelling for you. I think she wants you to go over there for a minute, just to get him calm."

"He wanted me?" That felt good to hear, I'm not sure why, but it felt good. "Well please take us down there! I want to see him."

"I guess so. C'mon." She responded, standing.

Echo groans and slowly stands also. I kinda giggle at her laziness.

"You'll survive." I put my arm around her and we walk side by side out the door.

"Why does she have to come with?" She asks me, her voice low. "I mean, I'd see her purpose in coming if she had a car but...I don't see a car so..."

"Oh hush." I tell her. "She's only going so that if Bigfoot attacks us while we walk through the woods again, she'll be the sacrifice so we can run."

This makes her laugh and I smile. "No, but really, we need someone to lead the way cause I'm not planning on getting lost today. If she's gonna follow us around, we might as well put her to good use."

"I guess that makes sense." She starts to reason. "But if this goes down hill, it's your fault."

"Echo, it won't. I promise." I stare out into the gleaming rows of trees. "I promise."
