     ✔ JACKSON ✔

I threw down my phone and ran towards the front door, when I realized I was half dressed. Letting out a sigh of annoyance, I rushed back upstairs to my room and threw on some joggers and a T-shirt, then I went back downstairs.

I rushed to Violet's house, my heart racing dangerously in my chest as I neared the driveway.

"Jackson?" a voice I recognized — and missed — said from behind me.

I whirled around to see the one and only Violet standing in front of me, a blank expression on her face. She looked like a mess, her hair was messy and it'd grown longer since the last time I'd seen her and she was wearing a pair of black running shorts and a hoodie. Her feet were bare.

"What's going on?" I said, rushing towards her.

     "Jackson, don't touch me."

I froze a few feet in front of her and gazed into her eyes. "Why not?" I demanded, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Because," she stuttered. "I don't want you to, that's all."

But I could see right through her; after all, she'd been my best friend for five years.

I wrapped my arms tightly around her, ignoring her protests.

"Jackson," she said weakly, lacing her hands in my hair. "I'm sorry..." she said, bursting into tears.

"Why are you crying?" I asked, beginning to laugh as I took in her upset state.

"Why are you laughing? It's not funny!" she said, choking on her tears as she began laughing — and crying — at the same time.

"You just began to cry for no reason," I pointed out. "Of course it's funny."

"Right," she said, her lips curving into a weak smile. Then she turned solemn again and gazed at me intently. "I'm sorry, Jacky. I'm really, really sorry. You mean everything to me and I just...I didn't want to lose you."

"You already have me," I pointed out, intertwining our hands together. "I love you, you know that, right?" I said, my lips curving into a smirk.

       She nodded.

"I love you too, butthead," Violet said, glancing down at our entwined hands.

With that, she smashed her lips against mine, taking me by complete and utter surprise.

And at that moment, all I could see and feel was her.
