Kyla's POV:

The most annoying sound in the world: your alarm clock, waking you up from an amazing dream just so you could go to hell, or the most popular name for it, school. I let out a loud groan as I hit the alarm with all my might so it would stop that infuriating buzzing. To my dismay, I had to hit it multiple times since I missed the snooze button every single time and I was too lazy to simply lift my head and look where I'm hitting. After a few more attempts, it finally stopped and the room fell into a peaceful silence. A grateful sigh passed my lips but then I remembered that I had to get ready. I sat up in my bed and looked at my familiar surroundings. Why couldn't I just stay here and rest 'till I felt like getting up? With another groan, I pulled the blanket off me and got up. I made my way to the bathroom, my feet dragging across the floor as I still couldn't conjure up the energy to walk any other way. Once inside I closed the door behind me and turned to look in the mirror. I did my usual morning routine that consisted of taking a shower, brushing my teeth, combing through my hair, you know how it goes. I let my hair fall loosely around my shoulders and then went back to my room to get dressed. After a bit of searching through my dresser, I finally decided on an outfit and threw it on. I turned and examined myself in the full length mirror, before nodding in approval and then walking out if my room. I skipped down the stairs and jumped over the last two, my feet landing with a thud on the floor. My body was suddenly radiating with energy and cheerfulness that had no explanation from my part. "Morning," I greeted Rita cheerfully when I walked into the kitchen. "Morning Kyla. Why are you in such a good mood? " Rita asked with a small smile on her lips. I shrugged. "Don't know. I'm shocked myself since I felt like the living dead a few moments ago," I joked. Rita gave a light hearted laugh at my statement, making a small smile appear on my lips. I sniffed the air around me and smelled a delicious aroma that made my mouth water. "Is that what I think it is?" I asked and ran to the stove where a small pot stood, steam rising from it. I peered into the pot and smiled at the contents it held. "Prawns! How'd you know?" I teased, placing a hand on my chest in false flattery. "Come on Kyla. You've lived here for over a year. I think I'd know you good enough by now." I smiled at her and quickly grabbed a bowl from the cupboard. I grabbed a spatula from the drawer and filled the bowl with a few prawns, before walking over to the dining table and sitting down. I instantly began to stuff the prawns into my mouth, savoring every moment. Rita soon joined me with a cup of coffee in her hand. We sat in silence for a while as I ate and when I was done, I stood up and went to put the bowl in the sink. "We should get going. I have a few things I need to take care of before school starts," Rita said as she came up behind me and put her cup in the sink as well. I nodded my head and grabbed my book bag from the sofa. I walked to the front door where Rita was waiting for me with her purse slung over her shoulder. We headed outside and Rita mad sure the door was locked before we head to the school of Suncoast High.

As we entered the school grounds, I said a quick goodbye to Rita before she walked in the direction of the office. I stood there for a while, looking over the few students who already occupied the school. I clutched onto the strap of my bag that I had slung over only my right shoulder, before heading in the direction of the locker area. After a few minutes, the school buzzed with life once more as more student arrived. I leaned against my locker as I scanned the groups of people, looking for a sign of my friends. There were people standing by the rows of lockers, talking and laughing together. Others walked around aimlessly, some in groups while others walked alone, either waiting for their friends or not even having any friend. With a roll of my eyes, I turned to my locker, feeling a bit annoyed that I couldn't find my friends. I turned the dial on my locker, repeating the combination in my head. When I had finished, I pulled on the handle. An irradiated groan escaped my lips when it wouldn't budge. I rolled my eyes once more and then pounded my fist into the locker. My annoyance turned into triumph when the locker door swung open. I picked up my book bag from where I had placed it next to me and placed the books inside of it into my locker. I then grabbed the books that I needed and stuffed them into my bag before slamming the locker door shut. I slung the bag over my shoulder and scanned the crowd once more. I finally spotted Evie and Carly as they stood by Evie's locker. I placed a small smile onto my lips and made my way over. Their backs were turned to me, so they couldn't see me approach and they seemed to be preoccupied with looking at something else anyway. "What are we looking at?" I asked once I had reached them, popping my head in between the two. Evie jerked a little, startled by my presence, but soon relaxed when she saw I was me. "Those three girls," was all Evie said as she nodded her head in their direction. I followed her gaze and froze. "I don't know who they are but they keep turning up and it's starting to annoy me," Evie continued but her words didn't process. All I could do was stare wide eyed at the three girls who stood at the end of the hall. They were her on land! How? What were they even doing here? They came to ruin her life, more than they already have. I clenched my fist, my nails digging into my palms. My confusion and shock melted away, leaving only boiling rage to course through my veins. Without a single word to Evie and Carly, I stormed past them and towards the three who looked clueless as they looked around the area. I gathered them and pushed them to the side where there weren't as many people. The three of them whirled around, clearly looking annoyed but all colour was wiped from their faces when they caught sight of me. "Kyla," Sirena exclaimed, sounding way too cheerful for my liking. I sent her a hard glare, wiping the smile clean of her face. "What the hell are you three doing here?" I hissed through clenched teeth, trying to keep my anger I was feeling towards them under control. Nixie opened her mouth to explain but I held up my index finger to signal for her to be quite. "You know; I'm actually surprised you're here. Actually, that's an understatement. Since you basically worship the council, you wouldn't be here under the council's knowledge," I started with a bitter laugh as I remembered how they stood with the council. I saw Nixie and Sirena's faces fall and Lyla send me a warning look but I ignored it as I continued. "So you can come onto land for you own selfish needs but when it's time to defend your best friend for the same crime, you stand back and watch!" I sneered at them. "Enough!" Lyla's voice boomed. "Would you shut up and listen!" She demanded. I crossed my arms over my chest, raising an eyebrow as a sign to continue. "The pod left Mako. We've been outcast," Nixie explained looking down at the ground. I threw my head back as I let out a laugh. "You think this is funny!" Lyla snapped. "Actually, I do. I never really believed in karma but now I realize that karma really is a bitch," I stated with another laugh. Nixie and Sirena looked at me, shocked about my reaction but Lyla simply just glared at me. I held up my hands in mock surrender when I finished my laughing. "Fine. Humor me," I said and then crossed my arms over my chest once more. "Why were you outcast?" The three of them exchanged looks before Sirena spoke up, "That's why we're on land. Last full moon a land boy got turned into a merman when her fell into the Moon Pool. We found out that his name is Zac." My posture stiffened. "We're here to make things right," Lyla finished. "Leave. Zac. Alone. If you so much as come near me or any of my friends or even try to interfere with my life, I will make sure your lives on land are like a living hell," I warned. All of them started at me, dumbfounded at my warning. With that, I turned om my heels and stormed off, leaving them behind, hopefully forever. But I knew deep down that it wasn't going to be that easy.
