He sat in the darkest corner of his room. He was hunched over with his legs drawn to his chest and his breathing was labored. Every now and then he would murmur a 'no' or a 'please don't.' His words were loud in the silence as there was no wind, barely any air and it was dark, like there would never be any light again. He raised his eyes and saw two things. A door and a girl his age. Slowly the door creaked opened but instead of showing a crack of light, more darkness swept out from behind the door. The girl gasped at this and she reached out towards the boy, her mouth moved as if shouting something but no sound could be heard from her lips. She ran towards him, her arms reaching to grab him but then the darkness came from behind her sweeping her from her feet and swallowing her. The boy watched on in horror before he was swallowed by the darkness too.

Lupa  N. Cain woke from her uneasy sleep gasping for air. 'not again' she thought as she kicked the duvet off her feet. She swung her legs off the bed and stood up making her way to the window. Lupa rested her forehead against the cool glass and gazed at the stars for a moment before sighing deeply and turned to face her clock. 3:30 it read 'well at least I woke up on time' Lupa thought. She began to make her bed not having any difficulty fluffing the pillows and smoothing the covers. Her feet padded across the wooden floor boards as she crossed the room to get clothes out of her closet. With the clothes in her hands she walked into her joined bathroom placed the clothes on a stool and had a shower. 10 minutes later she was braiding her long dark brown hair down her back and tying it off. She stepped out of the bathroom and pulled on some shoes. She opened the heavy wooden door of her bedroom and closed it quietly behind her. Stepping lightly she made her way down the hallway and out the back door, grabbing a black backpack on the way. She walked away from her house and made her way into the woods that lay behind it.

It was still dark, as it always was in the mornings, and only the quiet rustle of wind through the trees could be heard as it was too early in the morning for most of the animals to be up. Still Lupa made her way through the trees and though she walked at a fast pace through the forest she wasn't out of breath. Soon she was where she wanted to be. In front of her was a large clearing, a small stream bubbled quietly in the corner and the trees surrounding the area offered protection from the outside world. Lupa pulled off her shoes and removed her socks so her feet could stand in the soft grass that covered the clearing. She put her shoes in her backpack and then ran towards the large tree in the middle of the clearing. The tree was huge and it's strong sturdy branches reached towards the sky as if trying to embrace it. With a sense if grace Lupa ran towards one of the lower branches and pushing off the ground she leapt into the air with her arms extended. Her gloved hands grasped onto the branch and using her momentum she hoisted herself up onto the limb and with expert balance she crouched on the branch for a moment then began to climb up the tree. Once she was about halfway up the tree she found a nice sturdy branch and she sat on it, swinging her legs lazily. Lupa sat there for a while thinking about going to her new school before finally deciding that she couldn't escape it for long and so climbed back down the tree and made her way back to the house.
