More than friends

Chapter 6

Karma's POV

And here I am in front of the mirror with this beautiful dress that I never thought I'd wear. I hope to find Amy before it's too late...I wonder if she is having a good time with Felix or if I am crossing her mind...
But wait.. What on earth am I thinking? What am I about to do? I promised Amy that I wouldn't interfere with her life anymore. Why didn't I say no to Lauren? What if Sabrina decides not to go to the party and I screw up every chance Amy has of being happy with Felix? She'd never forgive me and I don't want to lose her. I'd better talk to Lauren about it. I just hope that she doesn't get too angry at me because she can be very, very intimidating when she wants.

(few minutes after)

Toc toc toc

"Lauren, can I come in?"

Lauren: "Of course. I need five minutes to do my makeup and then, we can go to see Amy."

"Lauren, there's something I need to talk to you about."

  Lauren: "Can't it wait?" 

 "No...I.... "  

Lauren slowly turns towards me and looks right into my eyes for what feels like forever and then says: "Don't tell me that you have changed your mind.  First, you torture me by repeating over and over how important Amy is for you and now, you chicken out. What's wrong with you?"

After venting her anger at me, she adds: " If you cared so much about her,  you wouldn't even think twice about going to the party with me. The truth is that you are self-centered. You don't deserve a friend like Amy."

(How much I would like to punch her in the face. Karma, no...Take a deep breath and try to calm down. She just wants to push your buttons) I say to myself.  

Lauren stares daggers at me and then, adds: " Ooops, it looks like I hurt your feelings"

(Now, I can feel my blood boiling. That's it, I can't take this anymore) I say to myself.

"You, how dare you speak to me in this way! You, who in the beginning hated her and thought only to your reputation! I care about Amy more than myself.  I'm just trying to be a better friend and I am afraid that, by barging into her life again, she will leave me alone just like she did last summer. I can't risk losing her again. After what has happened between Amy and me, I don't know anymore if I'm doing the right thing. She is absolutely the best friend anyone could have and you are right, I really don't deserve her and there's not much point in me staying here. Good luck with Amy" I say 

I am just about to leave the house when I feel Lauren's hand on my shoulder and I turn around. Without realizing it, I am crying. Lauren seems to notice it and does something unexpected: she wraps her arms around me and pulls me into a hug by holding me for a good long while to calm me down.

"Karma, I'm really sorry..." she says. I look up into her eyes and I realize that there is no rage in her eyes and that now she is looking at me tenderly and apologetically.

 She adds: " You should know that I don't want to force you into anything that you don't want to do. I know that it has been a rough year for you and Amy but you're still here, still friends. Amy adores you just the way you are. Don't let fear of making mistakes paralyzes you. Anyway, if it makes you feel better, I can go myself to check up on her and I promise you that I'll call you if something happens."  

I can see the sincerity in her eyes, in her voice and I know she is waiting for me to say something. I can feel her impatience.  

"Lauren, would you really do that for me? I really thank you for your help but you're right. I can't leave Amy alone to her fate. I'll go with you. Have you already heard someone?" I say with a smile

She gives me a soft smile and answers:

"Yes, Liam ten minutes ago while you were dressing. He told me that he is coming. I hope that he arrives on time".

Lauren's Pov

Din don

It must be Liam and he is on time. I must admit that he looks very good in his blue suit. Oh damn it, he is smiling. I could die right now...

Felix: "Hi Lauren! Wow....Youu.......loo..kk.. so... gooddd in... thisss... dress" he says staring out at me with a warm, shy smile and a light blush on his face. 

(I had never seen Liam so shy. What is happened to his self confidence?)

"Thank you very much. You're not so bad yourself" I reply winking at him making him blush harder.  

"Anyway... did you have trouble finding the house?" Liam says trying to change the topic looking at me with his blue eyes. 

I never realized how beautiful his eyes are. They are so mesmerizing.

"No. I'm a very good driver and I'm enjoying Karma's company very much." I say turning towards Karma.

(Karma, don't look at me in this way or he'll find out that I am lying. Say something. )

Karma: "Yes, it was easy and thank you very much for these dresses." 

Liam: " No problem. Anyway, I wanted to tell you that I could reach Felix by phone and he is waiting for us at the entrance of Henry's house."

"Perfect. Let's go"

At the party

"Liam, can you see Felix? There is too much crowd." Karma asks

"Yes, here he is. Felixx!!!!" Liam says

Felix: "Hi, Liam! Karma???Lauren??What are you doing here?Especially, you , Karma??What if Amy sees you?"

''Don't worry, Felix. Amy won't see her unless something or better, someone shows up." I say

" What are you speaking of? Felix says

"Sabrina could be at this party too." 

Felix: "What? Nooo, I can't let something ruin this evening. I was on the point of confessing my feelings to Amy when Liam phoned me.."   

" Whattt?" Karma says

Felix: " Yes, this evening I realized that I have strong feelings for her and I had intention to confess them. Karma, I want to thank you for convincing Amy to go out with me. I'm so happy tonight and I owe this to you. I can speak to her about everything and we have a lot of things in common and then, tonight she is very hot. I must admit that I cannot take my eyes off her. Her eyes...her smile..wow. I could swear that she tried to hit on me more than once. I think that she returns my feelings too"

(Damn, Felix!What have you just done? Can't you hold your tongue?)

(Bomb called Karma is ready to burst in less than 5 minutes).

Karma : ''What hell are you saying? Sabrina and Amy have just broken up and are you just speaking about the fact that Amy can return your feelings just because she has tried hitting on you this evening? You have to win her heart. Confessing your feelings will make her run away from you. Do you really want this?"

(Karma, are you sure that Amy is only a friend for you?you should be happy if she wants to move on. A friend would never have reacted like you.)

"I agree with you Karma but calm down and you, Felix, if you have feelings for Amy, asks for other dates. " I say

"Anyway.... we need to find Amy. Talking of her, when did you see her last time?"

Felix: Now that you mention it, she wanted to take something to eat and drink. Perhaps she is still here. If you want, we can go to see together.

Karma: "No. I'll do it! Stay with Lauren."
