Perfect soft pinkish lips are all it takes to have a beautiful moisturise-looking lips. In this chapter, I will share with you girls on how to have beautiful lips, how to choose the right lip color and how to lighten dark lips. It's all about lips!

HOW TO HAVE BEAUTIFUL LIPS

1. Protect Them...

Invest in a good lip balm to protect your smile. Harsh weather; wind and cold temperatures, will dry out your lips and can leave them looking and feeling sore but you can protect them very easily and inexpensively with a balm like ‘Vaseline lip therapy’. Lipsticks, glosses or balms that include an SPF will also protect from the sun’s damaging rays.

2. Allergies...

Allergies may leave lips chapped and more vulnerable to the colder weather. If you think you may be suffering from an allergic reaction try to eliminate possible causes, which can include mouthwash, toothpaste, lipstick or gloss and even some sunblocks. Stop using any product that is causing you suspicion for two weeks until you get to the cause of any reactions.

3. Hydrate...

Your lips will begin to feel tight and dry if you are dehydrated so drink plenty of water and consider a humidifier if you suspect that central heating is causing problems. Plants can also act like humidifiers - another great reason to enjoy plants around the home!

4. Moisturiser...

Invest in a good moisturiser for that is designed for use on the lips and  apply it at night under your usual lip balm. I use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly as it moisturise my dry lips.

Also, you can use an old toothbrush and mix olive oil and sugar into a paste and then scrub it on your lips for about 5-10 minutes. If your lips are extremely dry, for the first time you try to do this, first leave on a thick layer of vaseline for about 20 minutes. This ensures that your lips are softened enough for the procedure.

In addition to forming a moisture seal on your lips with beeswax or oil, a good lip balm will nourish your lips with vitamin E, jojoba oil, or whatever else you find most effective for your lips.

Whether it’s summer or winter, make sure your lip balm has an SPF protection of 15 or higher, which will keep your lips from burning and flaking.

You can also try coconut scrub your lips for 5 minutes. This will reduce the amount of dead skin cells and blockage.

5. Exfoliation...

Even your lips will benefit from occasional exfoliation. I recommend using a soft toothbrush with some Vaseline, in a circular motion, to help to remove dry skin once a week. Always follow with a moisturising product.

6. Diet...

Vitamin B deficiency can lead to cracked lips so make sure you’re getting enough from your diet. Include lots of milk, eggs, meat products, cheese, nuts, pulses, fish, bananas and whole grains to help boost your vitamin B levels.

Avoid eating salty foods that leave a bildup on your lips.Salt draws moisture out of things, which is why people use it to dry and preserve meat. Eating Cheetos, for example, will leave a salty orange powder around your mouth, causing your lips to dry out.

7. Licking Your Lips...

Avoid licking your lips. Saliva dries out your lips, especially since licking your lips is a quick way to remove your lip balm as well.

Throw away cheap, smelly, flavoured chapstiks. These will tempt you to constantly lick your lips.

8. Biting Your Lips...

Don't bite your lips. This habit will not only scrape away the protective seal formed by your lip balm, but can also cause trauma to your delicate skin.

9. Use a moisturising lipstick in the daytime, then switch to lip blam at night. Avoid thick or dark-colored lipsticks. A thinly applied, semi-transparent lip stain will show off the texture of your lips, making them appear smoother.

10. Breathe Through Your Nose. Breathing through your mouth dries out your lips just like windy weather.

11.  If your lips do get chapped, don’t pick them. It disrupts the healing process, makes them look blotchy, and can cause bleeding. To be honest, this is one of my bad habits.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT LIP COLOR

1. Find a color that is one or two shades deeper than your natural lips. Experiment with shades of pink and red. Pink and red look good on all skin tones, and works with most outfits and hairstyles.

These are some examples of colors that will matches your skin tone:

For fair skin: coral reds or dark reds with pink undertones.

For medium or olive skin: pink and cranberry shades, and brick reds.

For dark skin: reds with burgundy or brown tones.

2. Try the lipstick before you buy it. The color on the box or container can be often deceitful.

3. Remove one lip color completely before trying on the next. Otherwise, you will be mixing multiple colors together. Ask a sales rep for makeup remover or lotion.

HOW TO LIGHTEN DARK LIPS

Rosy lips are one of the most important elements of a woman’s charm which add to her appeal. No doubt, naturally rosy and pink lips look visually appealing. Dark lip is a problem with many girls. Lips that are pink are considered as beautiful and no one would like to have dark lips. But if your lips are dark, then do not lose hope. There are several natural tips which if followed regularly can lighten your lips to a great extent.

Here's some natural home remedies to lighten dark lips.

1. Apply a lip balm with a minimum SPF of 15. Constant sun exposure can darken your lips overtime.

2. The habit of licking the lips can also make them darker overtime so avoid doing that.

3. Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are highly effective in lightening the color of your lips, so use them regularly.

4. Take some red rose petals and grind them into a paste. Apply this mixture for at least 15 minutes daily. This is very effective in treating dark lips.

5.  Applying fruit and vegetable juices like pomegranate juice, red grape juice or beet root juice can lighten your lips dramatically.

6. Mix coconut water, lemon juice and cucumber juice. Massage your lips with this mixture. Keep for a few minutes and wash off.

7.  Before going to bed apply a mixture of almond paste mixed with milk cream on your lips to hydrate and nourish them. Since both almonds and milk have lightening and bleaching properties, they will definitely lighten your lips if used regularly.

8. A pack of gram flour, lemon juice and yogurt is not only excellent for your facial skin but your lips as well. Use it as a lip pack to remove lip darkness.

9.  Avoid smoking, high intake of tea and coffee. They can damage your beauty and lips in the long run.
