Cara's POV
I woke up with strong arms wrapped tight around me. Vic's legs were strewn over mine practically pinning me to the mattress while his arms pulled me tight to his chest. He was still sleeping soundly behind me.
I glanced at the clock on the wall; 7:45am. Dr. Pennington had said that if all went well and if I was feeling up to it, I could be out of here by early today. I was surprised that one of the nurses hadn't come in and shooed Vic out yet.
Then again, we did look pretty cute together.
I rolled over and stared at him for a few moments; his face was peaceful and unbothered, his lips slightly parted in his sleep. I was close enough to feel his warm breath brush over my face. Losing my train of thought, I leaned in and gently pressed my lips against his. It took him a few seconds to respond, but soon I felt his lips moving against mine with a new energy.
"Morning beautiful." He smiled a sleepy smile in my direction and rubbed at his eyes. I raised my arms above my head to stretch but he caught my arm instead, pulling me to his chest again and planting a kiss on the bridge of my nose. "I've missed waking up next to you." he mumbled into my hair. I turned my head to face him and set a gentle kiss on his chin.
"It's all over now. Dr. Pennington said I could check out of here today if I'm up for it, so I get to wake up next to you all the time again." He let out an 'mmm' of pleasure and hugged me tight before sliding off the bed and pulling his shoes on. A few minutes later a nurse, Monica to be exact, came in with a soft smile on her face. "How're you feeling dear?" She asked me as she checked my blood pressure and temperature.
"As good as new. When is the soonest I can I check out of here?" I asked her, trying to conceal how eager I was. I wanted out of this place. I wanted to go home and have privacy with Vic and see my friends again.
"Well, if you're feeling that up to it, I can go get the forms and have you sign yourself out." I nodded eagerly and felt Vic take my hand. My stomach growled ravenously but I ignored it; I refused to eat the hospital food they gave me. Instead I had been shoving the trays under my bed in secret.
She left the room and I scooted to the edge of the bed, letting my legs dangle off the edge. They had warned me my legs would be a little shaky and Pennington had suggested crutches for the first few days, but I had politely declined. I could walk myself.
Vic pulled my legs onto his lap from the chair and ran his hands up them. His touch was soothing and relaxing as he traced my skin. "You know I'm going to make you eat ten pounds worth of food before we head home right?" He smirked at me from the chair and I let out a groan but didn't protest; I was starving anyways and he knew I hadn't eaten since I woke up last night.
The nurse came back with a pen and some papers and I signed my name, handing them back to her with a goodbye. Vic stood, offering me his hand which I took and hopped down from the bed.
Immediately my legs were shaky, and I had almost tripped and fell if Vic hadn't caught me. "Are you sure you don't want me to carry you?" He eyed me with a worried expression, reaching out as if to pick me up into his arms.
"I'm going to have to walk some time." I reassured him and took his hand in mine again. By the time we made it to his car I was doing a lot better; my years of swimming had put much muscle in my legs, so I hadn't exactly gone jelly-legged from that week after all.
Vic opened the door for me and helped me into the passenger's side, me scowling at him for babying me like I would fall apart at any moment.
"Vic," I began sternly, shooting him a somewhat playful glare. "I know you're worried, but I'm fine. I'm not going to shatter on you, I promise-" He cut me off with his hands on my face pulling me to him. He crashed his lips against mine hard; it took me a few seconds to realize what had happened before I responded. I scooted to the edge of my chair, pulling his face closer to mine and winding my hands through his hair. One of his hands was on the back of my neck drawing me deeper into the kiss while the other ran up and down my side.
