Mike's POV
My arm hurt like a bitch.
Whatever that bastard had done to it had clearly broken the bone, but at least it was all over now. I dragged my feet out of the house and into the aura of flashing lights and shouting. Uniformed cops were bustling around after each other, interviewing the rest of the guys and Evelyn even though Jaime looked as if he was refusing to speak. My heart went out to him; he really cared about Freya, anyone could see it. And now he was standing around panicking, practically itching to get into the van and find out if his... girlfriend? was dead or alive. I really wasn't sure what they were, but judging by how he was reacting, you'd think they were married.
The rest of the group looked worn and exhausted; panic still shined through Vic's eyes though he tried his best to conceal it. When they wheeled Cara away she hadn't looked so good. For his sake and the sake of her, I prayed she was okay.
Cara had grown to be a sister to me. She had that kind of personality you just wanted to protect and threaten all of the boys to stay away, but at the same time you wanted to pinch her cheeks and ruffle her hair. I didn't think I could ever think of her as anything more or anything less.
I was led to one of the unoccupied ambulances for further treatment of my arm, and let me tell you, it was a bitch. They snapped the bone back into place right in front of me without anesthetic, and if it hadn't been for the quiet girl watching me from the back, I would've threatened to sue.
"Well that was pleasant." I muttered as the paramedics abandoned me in the back to drive me to the hospital for further treatment.
"Nat, can you wrap it up until we get back to the hospital?" I heard one of the paramedics call from outside. The girl in the back of the ambulance, Nat apparently, rose to her feet and grabbed a few rolls of gauze from the shelf next to me.
She stood in front of me, a little taller than me now since I was sitting down.
"No idea why they did that. It's not procedure." She muttered, motioning to my now realigned arm. I held it out to her and she began to wrap it as gently as she could.
"Nothing a man like me can't take." I grunted, catching a smirk flit across her face. "But if it happens again, I'm calling my lawyers!" I hollered loud enough for the passing paramedics to catch my words. The one that had snapped my arm back into place shot me a dirty look and headed around the ambulance, probably to get into the driver's side.
In front of me Nat let out a laugh, carefully taping up the gauze and straightening out the layers.
"So what is Nat short for?" I questioned her as she examined my arm quietly. She met my gaze steadily for a moment and glanced back down to my injury. Her eyes were the most beautiful hazel I had ever seen.
"My name's Natalie. I guess the nickname just stuck." She informed me as the back doors shut and the ambulance began to move. I opened my mouth to say something but was cut off when the vehicle hit a rather large bump, sending Nat on top of me and almost crushing my bad arm - almost. I was able to move it just in time and catch her with my good arm before she could tumble off of me and onto the ground.
She refused to meet my gaze as she pushed herself up off of me, straightening out her white top and acting as if nothing had never happened. But it had happened. The proximity of our faces during the fall was enough to tell me it had. There was no way she felt nothing between us.
Nat took a seat across from me, but I had other plans for this damn driver. I stood from my seat and pounded my fist on the back wall as hard as I could. "'Ey, you've got people back here!" I shouted through the metal. I could hear that asshole's pleased chuckled through the barrier.
