Chapter 4: Why Her?

A couple weeks started to go by and you haven't seen Mage since the day he was in your room. You didn't want to admit it but you actually missed seeing him. He wasn't in any of your classes so the only time you see him is when he's trying to capture Ritsuka. You had been thinking about how obsessed all the student council members were with her. You know it's because they want the grimoire, but you couldn't help but feel a little jealous. Mage was a devil, but something about him made you want to talk to him. But its not like you have a crush on him, right?
"(Y/n)? Hello?? Are you listening?"
You hear Azunas voice and it snaps you or of your thoughts.
"Azuna, yeah, what were you saying?"
She gives you an annoyed look. "Yeah I've been trying to get your attention but you were spacing out." You give her an awkward laugh, " oh I'm sorry, what did you wanna say?" "I was talking about me, you and Lindo meeting in the park tonight to have another meeting," the bell rings and she stands up. "He said this one is important." You stand up and walk with her to the hallway. "Oh yeah alright," "be there at 12, don't be late," she tells you, then she walks in the other direction.
You begin to walk down the hallway to go home. Before you reach the stairs you pass by the student council room where you can hear talking. Your curiosity gets the best of you and you walk over to the door to see what you can hear.
"Our time's running out, we need to make our next move before the vampire king does," you couldn't make out who it was. "Yeah but how? Nesta is probably planning something as we speak!" That voice you know. 'Mage...?' You think to yourself.
"Ok, well discuss our plan more tomorrow then we'll go into action 3 days from now." You hear a voice you believe is Rems say. Then it goes silent. "3 days from now? That's Saturday," you say to yourself. "It sure is." Hearing a voice right next to your ear, you jump and would've screamed if a large hand hadn't covered your mouth. You turn around to see Mage standing behind you. "Mage, why did scare me?" You say as he removes his hand from your mouth. "I think a better question would be, what are you doing here," he replies lazily, "I knew you were annoying and stubborn but I didn't know you were nosey too."
You roll your eyes at him and begin to walk away when he grabs your arm. "What did you hear in there?" He asks you seriously. "I'm not going to tell you," you try and walk away again when suddenly he pins you against the wall, keeping a tight hold on your shoulders. It happened so fast that you couldn't believe it. You look down the hallway for someone to help but sadly its empty.
"Look. I'm going to get the grimoire whether you like it or not, so don't think that just because you heard part of our plan that you and your exorcist friends can stop us."
You look at him speechless. Before when you were with him you didn't take his anger serious but this time is different. You truly felt scared.
"What ate you gonna do? Kill me? Well go ahead," You say quietly, glaring at him. All he does is glare back. You know you should probably so talking but you can't. "What would you do if Ritsuka didn't have the grimoire? Would you even be here?" He let's you go but keeps glaring as he finally speaks, but what he says completely caught your of guard.
"I'm in love with Ritsuka, and I want to make her mine."
You felt like you had just been shot in the chest. You knew that he wanted her for the grimoire but you didn't think it went that far. Before you know it your eyes start watering.
"You...love her?" You say quietly. He asks you what your problem is but you couldn't answer. You couldn't even look at him. You didn't know whether you felt anger or sadness but one thing is for sure: you loved Mage and hearing him say his feelings about Ritsuka broke your heart.
Mage P.O.V.
She's crying again, but why? All I said is that I love Ritsuka, what's the big deal? She starts to back away from me and she looks hurt. Part of me feels bad about it but there's no going back now.
"You...love her?" She says quietly, but I don't respond. I walk up to her and grab her shoulder but she pushes me off.
"Don't touch me! Just...leave me alone please," with that she brushes past me and runs away.
I sigh and lean against the wall. The truth is, I've been thinking about her for the past couple weeks, more than Ritsuka surprisingly. I've been spying on Ritsuka for the past couple days, but only when (Y/n) is with her. If Rem or the others knew they would either he mad or make fun of me for falling for a human so my only option is to push her away. I knew that saying I loved Ritsuka would upset her, so I said it, I had to. Besides, she doesn't want me, she's just a regular human and I'm a devil, its not meant to be. Simple as that.
'I'm sorry (Y/n), but I have to do this for the grimoire, its my job' I think to myself as I stare down the hallway where she ran.
