“What’s your name?” Mickey asked her
“Iven.”
“Nice, you stay around here?”
“Yeah, do you?”
“Temporarily.”
“Will I see you around here again?”
“Maybe.” He smiled at her. It was the kind of smile that made her wonder what he was thinking.
“Guess I’ll see ya round.” She said
“I guess.” He said
She put out her cigarette and got into her car. Her hands were still shaking. After she started the car, the passenger door opened. She looked quickly and it was Mickey.
“What are you doing?” Iven asked him
“Are you alone tonight?” he asked her
“Yes, but-“
Mickey got into the car and shut the door.
“Why are you-“
“Don’t be afraid, I just… I need some company.”
She didn’t know what to do. She looked into his deep eyes and figured something. “You’re lonely.”
Mickey looked at her lap and then back at her. He reached his arms out for a hug and she did just that. She hugged him.
“Thanks.” He said and hugged her tighter. “Thank you so much for understanding.”
Furthermore into the night, Iven and Mickey held hands. Their thoughts seemed to be the only noises that filled the air and so they listened.
