"WHAT?!" I gasped again, turning numb from head to toe. "Oh my God, oh my God," I moaned. "Johnny! This is so embarrassing! I can't even act!" I moaned, burying my head in my hands and sitting down firmly on the wall, heart sinking.
"Sure you can!" Johnny said comfortingly, looking like he was nervously considering whether to sit beside me on the wall, but he decided against it. "You said you went to acting school, right?"
"I also said it wasn't for me!" I groaned exasperatedly. "Oh, God, this is ridiculous! Why...how...how is this happening? People like you don't just come along and whisk people like me off to the Caribbean and announce I'm going to audition to star in one of the biggest movies around, just like that! I'm not like you! I just quit my job working in a cafe for four pounds an hour! This just doesn't happen!" I cried. "I'm not good enough to ever act in this movie alongside you and those other stars. I'm me. An ordinary girl. That's all I'm meant to be," I concluded breathlessly, gazing at him determinedly and straining to read his expression, but it remained unfathomable, until he gazed up at me, looking just as determined.
"Look, I know you can do it," Johnny said, his deep brown eyes fixed on me determinedly. "Just try...for me?"
I gazed at him miserably, feeling suddenly terrible. Anyone else would die for this opportunity. I had to at least try to be grateful.
"Okay," I whispered, and he beamed at me.
"Come on," he said, gesturing for me to follow him into the hut Gore had disappeared into. I got up and walked nervously after him, my stomach feeling as tightly knotted as the blindfold from earlier. We pushed open the door and I saw Gore sitting in a chair in the corner. He smiled at me and cleared his throat.
"Ah, glad to see you haven't changed your mind!" he smiled, not realizing that I hadn't even known about this in the first place. "You'll need this," he said passing me a script. "We don't usually do this sort of thing, but Johnny informed us that you were perfect for the part and we can always trust him. He's a good judge of character. Plus it'll be a good experience to try someone new to all of this. Everyone else so far has been-"
"Rubbish?" came a voice from behind us and we all turned to see a fresh-faced girl and a young guy standing silhouetted in the doorway, the door swinging shut behind them. The girl was slim and tall and fairly pretty, with large dark eyes which dominated her face and shortish light brown waves of hair.
She walked across the room in light, dancing steps, springing on her heels so that her shiny bob bounced on her shoulders. She shot me a fleeting smile with her pearly white teeth but the guy simply stared at me with his dark eyes, taking me in with apparent interest. He was handsome in a traditional pretty-boy sort of way, with lightly tanned skin and a slender physique, his shoulders broad. His dark curly hair was slightly, cutely disheveled, and his eyes were as dark as the girl next to him.
"Well not rubbish, Keira!" Gore protested sweetly. "Just...not what we were looking for," He said tactfully.
"So...rubbish then! Look, Gore, if we don't start filming soon we're going to have to give up on this movie, okay, because it's just wasting our time," Keira grinned, though it was obvious she was really serious. She nudged the guy next to her encouraging him to speak up. "Orlando agrees, don't you honey?" she said giving him a sharp poke in the ribs along with a motherly smile nonetheless.
"Uh, what? Oh, yeah, that's right," he mumbled, tearing his gaze away from my face. "Who's the girl?" He asked, shooting me a charming smile.
"She could very well be our Annette Silva," Gore smiled encouragingly at me, causing me to blush modestly as I realized he was talking about the character I was about to reluctantly audition for.
