It took about ten minutes in the car and I knew that Dr. Forlane was not a conversationalist. His lips were pursed tightly and his eyes were hidden from view by a dark sunglass. I could feel a nervous feeling rise up from the pit of my stomach.

We rode silently for a while, whizzing by the city. It took me all the amount of courage in my body to muster up a question, "Dr. Forlane.... Where.... Um.... Are we going?"

Dr. Forlane stayed silent for a while, his face stony. It seemed like forever until he responded, "An Academy." I stared at him for a while through the rear-view mirror, wondering if I should just jump out of the car. I shifted around, clutching the rag doll tighter in my hands, "What kind of Academy?"

     Again, pin-drop silence.

"Let me ask you a question. A genuine question." He paused for a while, letting his words sink in, "What if I told you that demons, supernatural beings, and magic existed in the world?" His voice was serious. No sarcasm.

I stared at him for a while, wondering if he knew what had happened to me. Then answered, "I would tell you that I do not believe in any of that." I decided that I would play on the safe side. Whatever had happened to me back at my house was a secret now.

Dr. Forlane's face stayed a stone. His expression didn't change. It scared me somehow, his face showing no emotions.

"Then I ask you, Ms. Holland, to stay calm and stop asking questions. You can trust me."

I wondered if his last sentence was true. I thought back to the man, and my vision. Right now. I couldn't trust anyone. Not even Dr. Forlane. For all I knew, he could be leading me to my deathbed.

It seemed like hours before Dr. Forlane stopped the car. I had dozed off and was suddenly awakened by the sound of the car coming to a jerky stop. I looked out the window, expecting to see a large Academy, instead, all I could see was tumbleweed.

I leaned in next to Dr. Forlane, "Dr. Forlane... Where-" Dr. Forlane raised his hand, silencing me.

His face was intense and his eyes were narrowed. The atmosphere around us suddenly changed as a slow feeling of discomfort surrounded me. I bit my tongue, trying to keep myself from asking another question. I sat back, shaking my leg impatiently. I turned and looked out the window.

I screamed instantly. There, in front of me, stood a large snake-like creature. It hissed menecingly at me and it's red eyes glinted hungrily. It opened it's mouth, hissing louder and showing off it's two huge fangs. I felt me heart start to beat out of my chest, I turned to Dr. Forlane who was starting to get out the car.

I scooted backwards to the far end of the car whispering, "Yes. I'm dreaming. I"m dreaming." I squeezed the ragdoll of Rose closely to my chest, wincing as the snake creature lunged at the window again and again.

Dr. Forlane had stepped out of the car, his eyes locked onto the snake's. The snake hissed, slithering backwards. He instantly lunged forward, latching himself onto Dr. Forlane's arm. The knife in the hand instantly clattered to the floor as Dr. Forlane let out a howl of surprise and agony.

I covered my ears, shaking my head and whispering, "This isn't happening. No." I watched helplessly as Dr. Forlane started to lose his color. I had to do something.

A sudden mixture of anger and fear rushed over me. My eyes locked with the snake's and everything seemed to slow. The snake instantly let go after looking into my eyes, staring right back at me. Then Dr. Forlane grabbed the knife, stabbing it right through it's head. Blood gushed out and the creature dropped dead, hissing silently as it died.

I watched as it dropped to the ground with a thud. And then I could feel an overwhelming amount of heat hit me. The next thing I knew, everything went blank.

When I opened my eyes, I was standing at the edge of my neighborhood. My house was on fire and there were screams coming from inside the house. I began to run towards the house, knowing that this wasn't real, and yet wishing it were. "Mom! Dad! Rose!" I could feel light tears drop down onto my shirt as I ran. Then I stopped abruptly.

A man, the man, was walking away from my house. He was the man who put my house on fire. I was standing right in his pathway, but instead of stopping, he walked briskly through me. A cold gust of air seemed to pass through my body as he walked away, not noticing anything.

I stood there for a while, wondering what had just happened. Then I ran and followed him. He let himself into a black car, watching the fire burn from there.

I stood there silently next to the car, listening as he talked to something in the back seat, "It has been done, the Hollands are dead."

I stared at him for a while, thinking that maybe he was just a maniac, and then suddenly, a beautiful, gorgeous woman appeared in the back seat.

I stared into the car angry, but amazed. She sat there for a while, staring out the window at my burning house, "For now, we wait."

I screamed angirly and rushed towards the car, but right when I started to grasp the handle, everything disintegrated.

"Ivy? Ivy?" I felt myself being shaken awake. I opened my eyes slowly, focusing on Dr. Forlane's serious face. He gave a relived sigh as I opened my eyes.

Damp sweat rolled off of my face and my body ached incredibly. Dr. Forlane inspected me carefully and grabbed my arms with the strength of iron. I yelped, a shot of pain running up my spine.

He let go suddenly, letting my arms take in blood again. I rubbed them carefully, glaring at Dr. Forlane. He stared at me for a while, his expression completely blank. Then he opened the door to the car and got back in.

I helped myself up, groaning at the pain in my back. I opened the car door and sat down in the seat. The car window by my side had been cracked all the way down. I stared down at the snake type creature, a shiver running down my spine. Before I could even ask my question, Dr. Forlane answered, his voice a little snotty,

     "Yes, Ivy. It's a demon."
