Nighttime adventures in the city always begin pleasantly
An invitation to get away
For maybe three or four hours, to spend time with some friends you haven't seen in a while
Use some of the scattered city lights that everyone says they love, to reabsorb some of your lost inner glow
And who knows, maybe even find a love of your own
But you were never like them
The city lights never did for you what they did for your friends
You felt the lights burning your skin, and they could do nothing but let it all in
And they simply thought you had to be removed from your shell
They didn't realize what you wanted
How you felt
You didn't thrive off the vibrant city lights like they did
You couldn't dance to the entrancing music quite like they did
You were a thinker
And so on these midnight city trips the only nighttime adventures you had were in your mind
Getting lost in thought
Lost in thoughts, drifting deeper into fantasies and worries
Wondering, "What if I were different?"
"Why am I here? Are these people even my friends?"
But your reality has you stuck, you can't escape these crushing thoughts
And you can't escape your life
An entangled labyrinth cursed to struggle breathing under city lights
You're lost
And the roof of this club provides you no exit
