Midnight Jazz

Following the sounds of Jazz at midnight make you overwhelmingly emotional
You can't help but think as you drift through these dimly lit city streets
Being carried by sullen blue melodies
You can hear the voices of all the people you miss with each note
All the people you've lost
All the people you need
Reminiscing seems to be the only way
The only gateway to a past not yet fully discovered
But a future that can now never happen, this Jazz at midnight touches your soul
And grabs it
Squeezes it and never relinquishes its hold
Being trapped in a digital neon nightmare with no way back to the one you loved is torture
And these city lights burn your eyes more than the tears that threaten to betray your demeanor and run free
These city sounds, of commerce and cars rushing even at midnight
Do nothing to drown out the Jazz that you can hear
How it calls to you like ghosts, each one playing a different note
On a different instrument
Pulling the strings on your heart
All you feel is pain
All you feel is sadness
All you feel is alone
Alone surrounded by a million people, and not one of them could care
That this jazz at midnight is caressing your ears like a siren's song
Surely leading to your own destruction, and you can't stop enjoying it
Can't help but relish each blow to your chest from a blow on a saxophone
And you're left breathless from your stupidity
This music is not for you
This music is for survivors
Those that lost a loved one but still managed to continue
This music is not for you
You lost a loved one
But you died on the inside
