Chapter 7

Jake’s Pov-

“Jake, the vampires have surrounded the pack land.” Zach said.

“As much as I hate to say this, we can’t focus on there, that’s what they want; we need to prepare for battle here.” I told him.

“Why here?” Sasha asked.

“Here because we need time to train, we need supplies, and it’s easier to defend with an unorganized group such as ourselves than to attack.” I said simply.

While Zach and Sasha thought over what I said I couldn’t help but wonder where the pups are.

“Zach, where are the pups?” I asked worriedly.

“They’re at the elementary school” He told me.

“We should bring them here so that we’re not divided and worrying about them.” I suggest.

“They can stay in some of the classrooms.” Sasha suggested.

“Perfect. Anything else we need to go over before we check up on the wolves?” I asked.

“What about the humans?” Sasha asked.

“What about them?” Zach questioned.

“What’s to say that they won’t get hurt.” Sasha explained.

“They can train with the Wolves.” I suggested.

“Oh yes, lets scare the shit out of the humans.” Zach said sarcastically.

“Zach, they need to be able to protect themselves as well.” I told him.

“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean that they should train with the wolves.”

“It means exactly that. We don’t know how strong the Vampires are and we wolves are the closer strength and speed wise then the humans.”

“True… Okay I’m in.” Zach said.

Sasha leaned over to her desk and called through the loud speaker “Everyone, please report to the gym.”

Let’s hope the wolves and humans can work together.

“Why are we here?!” a human called from the bleachers.

“Yeah, this isn’t our fight!” another said.

So much for them willingly working together.

“It may not be you’re fight right now, but they might just make it your fight.” Sasha tells them. “For the safety of humans and wolves alike, instead of classes, you will be training.”

“But what if we don’t want to work with them?” one of the wolves said.

“You will work with them because I said so.” I told him. Staring him down, daring him to disagree.

“Any other questions?” Sasha asked the crowd. “No? okay. Jake would you like to take over.”

“Thank you Sasha.” I said. “Everyone pair off, one wolf, one human per group.”

“There are more wolfs than humans Alpha.” Someone informed me.

“Yes I know, just try to pair off so that every human has a wolf.” I told them.

Devin walked next to me.

“What are you doing?” I asked genuinely confused.

“You need a partner and so do I.” he said.

“I have Zach.” I told him.

“Zach’s with Mrs. Kassner.” Devin said with a smile.

“Don’t you have friends?” I asked.

“Yeah but they already have partners.”

“Okay then.” I said in defeat then smile. “Everyone look over here. Watch Devin and I.”

“What do you mean watch us?” Devin asked confused.

“You’ll see.” I say grinning before lunging at him.

I don’t trust my wolf with Devin so I only partially shifted.

I slash my claws at his chest. I push him to the floor only for him to bounce back up. He threw his fist at my face which I easily dogged. He isn’t going to win this, he won’t.

Good. He rejected us, he doesn’t deserve to have his dignity.  My wolf said.

I growl and lung at him again only this time aiming for his throat. I grab him by the neck and pin him to the ground. I stop as my claws were just inches from his throat before standing up and brushing dust off my pants.

The room was dead silent.

“Got it? Just attack each other. Don’t actually hurt each other though.” I say with a nod before walking away.

“What the hell was that?” Devin hissed as he ran up next to me.

“That was me kicking your ass. No leave me alone, I have work to do.” I told him walking a little faster.

“Jake. Jake, wait.” Devin said still fallowing me.

“What?!” I ask, whipping around to face him.

“Jeez. What crawled up your ass and died?” He asked me.

“I don’t know what crawled up my ass but I sure as hell know what died.”

“Oh yeah, What pray tell died?” He mocked.

“I’m not sure what the technical name is but I feel like a part of me has died so if you don’t mind, I’d like to mourn myself.” I say before turning to walk away.

“Jake wait. I didn’t mean to hurt you I just…” He trailed off

I stop to listen.

“… You just what Devin? You just accidentally crushed my heart? Yeah right leave me alone.” I said before walking again wiping a stray tear from my eye.

Devin’s POV-

“… You just what Devin You just accidentally crushed my heart? Yeah right leave me alone.” He said before walking away again, not looking back once.

What was I going to say anyway? It’s just that ‘hey man, look I didn’t mean to hurt you it’s just that I can’t be with you right now because some homicidal vampires have my mother hostage’ doesn’t seem to cut it.

I slide down the lockers onto the floor and for the first time since my father was killed and my mother was taken, I cried.
