You stood awkwardly in the middle of the room. People moved all around you, chatting and drinking happily, while you stood like a statue, waiting for Sasuke to return. You were at his office Christmas party, just a few days before the actual holiday, and you were feeling extremely out of place. The only people you knew here were Naruto and Hinata, and you hadn't seen either of them all night. You spotted the snooty blonde secretary from across the room, and when you connected eyes she gave you a dirty look and moved on. A few people had approached you and attempted a conversation; mostly men who were only interested in fetching your number. You never really gave any of them a chance, since you were too busy searching the room for any sight of Sasuke, who told you he would get you a drink and hadn't returned after twenty minutes. You finally caught sight of him making his way towards you from the other side of the room. He held two solo cups and handed one to you, then took a sip of his own. He scrunched up his face.
"Never trust Naruto to bring the drinks," he said with a sour face, but took another sip. You supposed even bad alcohol was better than no alcohol.
"Speaking of Naruto," you said while tapping the side of your cup with your index finger. "Where is he? I haven't seen him since we got here."
"Who knows?" he asked and shrugged his shoulders. He took another sip of his drink, then looked around at the crowd. He groaned. "This blows," he muttered.
"No it doesn't," you protested, but for the better part of the time you'd been at the party, you'd been standing alone or talking to half-drunk co-workers of Sasuke's who kept staring at your breasts. "Look, everyone's having fun."
"I'm not," he grumbled.
"You don't count, you never have fun," you said, and he glared daggers at you. "Anyways, I'm sure your friend worked really hard to throw this party."
He scoffed. "Yeah, well, Sakura means well, but she can be a bit –"
"Did I hear someone say my name?" someone asked beside you in a perky voice, which startled you and made you jump slightly. You looked to see a beautiful women standing to your right. She had short pink hair and dazzling emerald eyes, and she wore a beautiful red party dress and a bright smile.
"Sakura," Sasuke greeted shortly.
"Glad you could make it, boss," she replied cheerfully, not seeming to be fazed by his curtness. She then glanced at you, then back at Sasuke. "Sasuke, aren't you going to introduce us?" she asked.
You could almost see Sasuke internally rolling his eyes. "Sakura, this is (Y/N) (L/N). (Y/N), this is Sakura Haruno, my CFO."
Sakura held out her hand for you to shake. "It's very nice to meet you," she said warmly.
"You too," you said and shook her hand.
There was a moment of silence where none of you knew what to say. Finally, Sakura clasped her hands together and said, "Well, I should go mingle. Have fun, and it was really nice to meet you."
You smiled and nodded a goodbye. As soon as she left, Sasuke seemed to let out a breath of relief. "What, do you have a problem with her or something?" you asked.
"No, she's an old friend. She's a good worker and everything, it's just that sometimes she can be a bit too... perky," he answered.
"You can't handle perky?" you teased.
"Spend an hour with her and tell me if you can handle it."
You laughed, then looked around and took a big swig from your cup. "So how long do we have to hang around before we can leave?" you asked.
