The laughing was what I heard first in the darkness as I started to walk home from school. The next might've been the pleading, instantly I frowned and headed over there.
My backpack hanging off one shoulder as I walked, "What's going on here?" I asked my voice dangerous as I broke through the small crowd of the Junior Football team were surrounding a small kid.
A kid that I recognized in my math class, "Hey babe." One of the dudes, Mike my boyfriend, said draping his arm on my shoulder and looked like he didn't see the defenseless boy tied to the goalpost.
"Get off me." I said shoving him while giving him a glare. He put his hands up and had an affronted, insulted look, "What are you doing babe?" he asked his voice a bit of anger as I glared at him.
"Go home before I call the cops and report this." I said dangerously as I moved behind the kid who was shivering from the cold, it was 20 degrees in winter, snow was going to fall around 9 which was two hours away, what were the idiots thinking.
I hard hand grabbed me before I could finish untying the note, "Stop." Another football guy said glaring at me and clenched his hard painfully, but I didn't yelp instead I looked him dead in the eye.
"If you do not release me I will call the cops and report that you have abused this kid, don't forget I have proof." I said and felt his hand clench even more, definitely will get a bruise later but this was wrong and needed to stop.
"Let it go babe. We're just having a bit of fun." Mike said motioning the other football guy unhand me.
"This fun, "I spat, "has gone on too far, and don't call me 'babe' because here on out, we are through."
This time Mike's hand clenched my wrist, "You don't mean that now do you Sally." His voice was low, dangerously low and I narrowed my eye.
I ripped my wrist away, "I most certainly do." I said and felt myself shoved roughly to the ground.
I stood up fast and elbowed the guy in the nose hard enough that he screamed and it started to bleed, "Now we are going to go, and you will not follow us." I said untying the kid finally and grabbed a blanket from my backpack (I might use it in the library shhh.)
I wrapped it around the kid who hasn't said a word since I got there, no need really I knew his name and age...though adress might be a problem which I will attend once we are a bit away from school.
"Come on." I muttered and helped the kid stand on shaky feet and not because of the cold but from sore muscles. I cursed in Latin (which I was learning) and dug through my backpack and handed him my running shoes, "Just until we get you home." I said and lead him away from the school, him leaning mostly on me.
I rubbed my arms on the blanket to try and help create friction which meant heat, "Where do you live?" I asked a few minutes into the walking.
"I take a public bus home. The one that's a five minute walk from here." Spencer, the kid who I think was eight, said quietly through chattering teeth.
"How long is the drive?" I asked quietly debating if his house or mine was closer, at least we were riding the same bus.
"Fifteen minute drive then ten minute walk." Spencer replied and tried to wrap the blanket closer.
"My house is closer, do you mind if we stop there and get you a nice shower and then maybe your parents can pick you up?" I asked quietly, my breath showed in the air as it felt colder.
"Okay." Spencer said hesitantly, we walked in silence until we got to the bus stop and I looked through my back for any more help.
"Have you eaten?" I asked finding half a sandwich I didn't eat.
