I woke up hours later to low knock on the kitchen door. I looked over at the digital clock on the television stand which read 11:38 pm. It was very peculiar to have someone visit this late at night, especially with my mother sound asleep in the next room. I swung my legs from the couch and stood upright, quickly feeling dizzy from the sudden rush onto my feet. I dazedly staggered to the kitchen door and cracked it open; the hallway light almost blinding my view but I recognized the man standing before me. Chase was standing before me with a backpack full of clothes and a tired look on his face. His eyes were red and puffy; I take it he had just got done crying.
"I have nowhere else to stay" He said with a broken, raspy voice. "I didn't know where else to go". I opened the door even more and letting him walk through the doorway. I felt bad for him, also feeling guilty for being there. I flicked on the kitchen light and he sat at the table. I made him and I a cup of Jasmine tea and sat at the table across from him. He stared off into his cup, almost looking for a purpose within the steam and liquid. Sitting before me wasn't the same Chase I knew earlier today, what sat across from me was a broken shell of a man, longing for a sense of belonging anywhere he could seek it.
"I take it you don't want to talk about it tonight" I began. "And that's completely understandable". I looked at his melancholy expression, which seemed to slip more and more into loneliness with every word I spoke. The bond that him and I shared felt fractured, like I was losing him to his own mind. He folded his arms and looked down at the table, his messy, spiked locks dropping down to his forehead. I suddenly heard the pitter-patter of my mother's feet enter the kitchen.
"What's going on in here?" She asked. She dropped her gaze to Chase's face and saw his disconsolate appearance. I could almost see her heart drop as she pulled up a chair and placed her hand on Chase's shoulder.
"Chase, honey, what happened?" She spoke. Chase's head pandered from his possessive attention to the wooden table to my mother's crystal eyes. His eyes and cheeks flushed red as a single tear streamed down cheek. He seemed to be at a loss for words. His lips trembled but no words passed his teeth.
"My parents kicked me out" Chase answered after moments of discomforting silence. "My head is so confused with what I actually want". Just hearing that was enough for my mom to access the entire situation. Suddenly her gaze turned to me but I quickly adverted my eyes to my cup of tea. I watched as the steam rose from my cup but I could still feel her cold stare against my shoulders. That look had the power to send chills down my spine and turn my hot tea cold. The stare basically said , "I bet you had something to do with this"
" Well Chase, if your parents are going to be cold to you, you are welcome to stay here as long as you like" She said warmly. She ran her hand through his hair and smiled. "But you're gonna have to sleep on the couch". Chase's melancholy expression turned into a slight smirk.
"Yeah that won't be a problem. Thank you" Chase said standing up. We all stood up as my mother parted with us into her own room. Chase followed me to my room and plopped his backpack onto my black swivel chair. I walked over to my mirror and pushed my hair back from my face. Suddenly, I felt warm hands wrap around my waist and pull me in close. I turned around and wrapped my arms around Chase's neck. I pulled him into a hug and listened to the sound of his heartbeat in my ear.
"Nick?" He asked me, breaking the silence for a few seconds. I looked up and him and smiled lightly.
"Yeah?". He pressed his lips against my forehead and kissed it.
"I love you". I saw his face get flustered as he tried to look away. I pulled his face in close and pressed my lips against his. I felt his grip on my waist get tighter as the kiss got more intimate.
"I love you too". Suddenly, he pulled away, grabbed the blanket from my bed and smiled at me.
"I'm on the couch tonight cutie" He said, winking at me and walking out of the room. I'm glad I got too saw him smile before he left, the look on his face a few minutes ago looked like he wasn't going to smile for a long time. However, he put on a brave face for me, even though he is hurting. I shook my head and smiled; walking over to the closet and pulling out a spare blanket from the top shelf and wrapping myself in it. I jumped into bed, happy as a clam, knowing the man of my dreams was camping out a few rooms away.
I woke up the next morning to my alarm clock blaring the same sharp tone over and over again. I placed my hand on the snooze button and practically jumped out of bed with excitement. This is the first time in a long time I actually wanted to go to school. I was happy that I could actually be joined with my boyfriend. I paced out of my room and walked to the living room to see Chase cuddled up with a pillow and lightly snoring. I walked up to him and gently caressed his face. I bent my body down to his level and pressed my lips against his. I quickly felt him smirk and run his hand through my hair.
"What a great way to wake up" He said pulling away and gazing into my eyes. " I swear it's better than coffee". I chuckled a bit and stood upright, taking his hand and leading him to my room.
"Get dressed, we gotta go". I watched as he dug through his bag and pulled out a peach colored tee-shirt and khaki pants. I turned around and picked out a dark blue tee-shirt and dark washed jeans. I turned back around to him and he already had the khaki pants on and his chest was exposed. His lightly tanned skin glistening against the sun shining through the curtains. He raised his right eyebrow seductively at me before he pulled his shirt on. I grabbed my shirt from the hem and pulled it over my head and unbuttoned and pulled off my pants, revealing my red boxer briefs. I looked up at him and he was gazing at my body, almost in a trance. I pulled the dark washed jeans up to my hips and walked over to him; not even bothering to button or zip it up, so it was almost falling to my mid-thigh when I got over to him. I knew I wasn't ready for sex with Chase yet, but I sure did like to tease him. It doesn't torture Chase that I tease him, I'm sure he isn't as ready just as I am. He traced his index finger down my torso and circled my belly-button a few times. My eyes followed his finger as he tugged on the elastic on my underwear. I looked up at him and he bit his lip lightly. Finally, he smiled, kissed my cheek and lightly pushed me back to the dresser.
"You're not the only one who can tease people Nick" He said, looping his belt to his pants. "Get dressed already". I pulled on my shirt and slipped on my shoes. I grabbed my backpack and phone and walked into the kitchen and waited for Chase to join me. After a few minutes he led me downstairs into his car and we were ready to start the day.
