What I Miss

I miss childhood summer nights,
chasing fireflies and frogs.
Today I have cool nights that carry
playful winds and the mournful wail of a nearby foghorn.

I miss long nights playing games-
card games, video games, dice games.
Today I have my trust tablet complete with pocket-size versions of all those late-night pleasures.

I miss the days just before I chose the divergent path, to walk alone, sometimes rueing the choice and the consequences of fear.
Today I have a family quite unlike any other, people who love me, who respect my choices, and cherish me despite infirmities.

I miss days driving, that sense of independence shat was shattered one day by the loss of an eye.
Today I no longer drive, my full independence stripped, yet I have learned to see so much more.
