"Do you want to come over and work on the math homework? You won't be intruding, I promise," Bexley asked on our way to her truck.
"Um. Can we go over to my house? I have to get my little sister off the bus," I looked at my feet as I said it.
"Fine with me. Just remind me to call my grandparents so they don't worry," she said as she climbed into the cab. "We are listening to the Hamilton soundtrack because it has been stuck in my head all day for some reason." She rummaged through her collection and popped the CD in when she found it.

My parents weren't home, but I knew they'd be fine with Bexley coming over. They want me to make friends and know that I'm not the 'I just met you, but do you want to screw type'. They trust me pretty well.
"This is my home," I said as we walked in. I took her around and told her what each room is. (Or what it's going to be. We haven't fully unpacked.)
"I like it. I think you guys will make a beautiful home out of this," Bexley said when we were finally in my room.
"You can take a seat any where. It's kind of a mess at the moment, but I haven't fully settled in yet." I said glaring at all of my half opened boxes.
"If you need any help unpacking, I'm free whenever." She smiled at me. She was sitting criss-cross-applesauce on my bed.
"Thanks, I'll remember that..." We sat in silence for a little bit until I remembered,"Don't you need to call your grandparents?"
"Oh my gosh! Yes, thank you!" She pulled out her cellphone and started scrolling through her contacts. When she found the right one she placed it to her ear. A couple of rings later someone picked up.
"Nanna?"
I heard a muffled "Bex?"
"I'm at a friends house doing homework. I'm not sure when I'll be home."
Some more muffled words came from the phone.
"I know it's a school night, Nanna. You know that I won't stay out too late, I go to bed before you." She laughed a little. "I'll call when I'm leaving."
The voice on the other end asked another question. Bexley turned to me and asked,"Am I staying for dinner?"
"You're welcome to if you'd like. I'm not sure what we're having.. and um.. my family is vegan.. so." My parents met at a vegan gathering it's kind of gross. I think it was some PETA thing.
"Yeah, Nanna. I'm staying for dinner."
The voice became concerned.
"Nanna, they are too, surprisingly." We are too what? I thought. "I love you."
They voice, I assumed, said "I love you, too," and they hung up.
"We are too what?" I asked.
"Vegan. My Nanna went crazy when she had to start cooking for me. Now she gets concerned when I eat over someone's house because she's afraid I won't get enough to eat." She rolled her eyes in a way that said 'grandmas, am I right?'.
"My parents actually met a vegan gathering. They used to be huge into animal rights, but shortly after they got married they started focusing on their jobs, so they don't really have time for that stuff anymore. I grew up vegan." I shrugged.
"After I found out how they treat the animals, how healthier it is for you, and how better it is for the environment I switched. My dad did it with me." She smiled at the memory. "Any way, you want to work on the homework?"
