It was a midsummer afternoon, in a small house in the forest. Nothing was out of the ordinary, but a big step was about to be made by a young man.
Underneath a lump of covers was the hyperventilating mass. His body was convulsing and shaking, and his eyes were wide with fear. The reason why he was in such a helpless state was only for one reason.
He was going to go outside for the first time in four months.
His phone rang and the name read Tyrone. Hands shaking, he picked it up.
"Yo, Reid. I'm here. Are you ready?"
"I-I d-dont," he said in between breaths, "h-have much of a ch-choice, do I?"
"Yes, you actually do. You were the one with the idea, you can back out at any time."
Inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth, he thought. He can do this.
"I'll be right out." He put on a brave face, but he felt like suffocating.
He sat up, already dressed and ready. This was actually happening.
Legs feeling like noodles, he walked of the prison he called his room. He finally approached the front door, and he froze when he had his hand on the doorknob.
He had a sudden urge to sprint back to his room. He wanted to go back to bed. He wanted to hide. No, he mustn't. It's too late now, there's no going back.
He slowly twisted it and walked outside and looked around. The sun beaming down on his nose, and the blue sky welcomed him.
Suddenly, a car honk snapped him out of his trance. He quickly walked into the car, and slammed the door shut. He hadn't been in one of these in a while, either.
"You doing okay, man? How does it feel?" Tyrone patted his back as he drove off.
"I'm... Hanging in there. It's really hot," he said with a nervous chuckle.
Tyrone stopped at the store and said he needed to buy some things for himself, and asked Reid if he wanted to go with him.
"I'll just stay in here, I'll be okay."
"Alright bro, I'll keep the car on so you don't bake in here," he said as he left the car.
"Alright."
He sat in silence, and looked at the outdoors, his mortal enemy. He then saw a flash that caught his attention.
He squinted, and looked out the window. It was a young man around his age, with flowing green locks covering one of his eyes, and he found that the man's one uncovered eye was staring.
Staring straight into Reid's own eyes.
Suddenly, a truck passed in between the both of them and he was gone.
That was strange.
