I pick up the baby and start to rock her instantly she stops crying and starts falling back asleep. I place her back in the crib and start looking for a note or card, but there isn't one. There isn't even so much as a name tag. I need to begin thinking of names then.
I grab my phone and call the first person in my contacts. It just so happens to be my best friend, Sophie. I hear her phone ring and then I remember she was staying with me. I walk through the living room and into the guest room. I wake up Sophie, she rolls over and looks at the clock. It reads: 2:17 am. She sits up and looks at me like I'm crazy. "You do know you have to get up in the morning for work?" she asks.
"Yes, but it's very important and anyway did you forget I'm dating my boss."
"True, so what is it that's so important that I have to be woken up at two in the morning for?"
I silently take her into my room and show her the tiny infant. Sophie thinking it was a dream too, pinched herself and me, realizing it wasn't a dream. "So what do we do with her?" Sophie asked.
"Well there's a Wal-Mart a couple of minutes away, and you still have your nephew's car seat in your truck. So what do you say we do a little late night shopping?"
Sophie loves shopping, and it doesn't matter what for. So of course she says yes. I carry the baby out of the house and into Sophie's truck. Me still new to the whole parent thing automatically turns the radio on full blast. Which of course startles the baby. So we have to pull over calm the baby down and keep going. We finally got to Wal-Mart, and bought a bunch of stuff for the baby. I just don't know if I'm parent material. Sophie is leaving in a week to go back to Nevada, and I don't know if my boyfriend, Aaron will want to help me raise her. Gosh this is going to be a wreck.
