The girl ran, her breathes gasping and violent.
"Don't run. Come play." two voices whispered on the wind, completely in sync, one high, one low.
"Help!" the girl sobbed, narrowly avoiding a bramble bush.
"We can help. Don't run." the voices said.
"Aahh!" she screamed as her foot was caught in a loose root, sending careening to the ground.
Tears leaked from her eyes as she rolled onto her back, looking fearfully up at the figure.
"No....." she sobbed quietly, scooting backwards.
"Don't run. Come play." It said, it eyes glowing blue. The figure was a little girl in a simple shift, an old teddy bear hanging from one hand. It's hair was a mess and its skin was deathly pale with dirt and scratches.
"We can help. Don't run." It repeated taking a step forward, reach out a hand to her.
"Please......." the girl scrambled to her feet, moving backwards.
In a sudden flare of dark light, the figure was behind the girl.
"We said DON'T RUN!!" it screeched and the girl fell to the forest floor, lifeless.
•••1 year later•••
A boy laughed and pushed his friend's shoulder.
"Hey Julie. I dare you to spend the night at the Haunt."
The tomboy pushed him back and put her skateboard on the road, one foot trapping it in place.
"Yeah? I dare you to spend it with me."
"Prize?"
"The loser buys lunch for two weeks."
"You're going broke." he grinned and skated toward the abandoned mansion.
"Wait up!" She followed him, her eyes flicking toward the dark woods.
~~~
"Goodnight." he whispered spookily.
"Ha ha." She laughed sarcastically, burying herself under the blanket.
"Don't run. Come play." three voices whispered, completely in sync, one high, one low, one wavering.
"Cut it out, Josh." She said, slapping his arm.
"Very funny." Josh said, rolling over in his sleeping bag to face Julie.
"What? That's not me."
"Sure." he said, dragging it out sarcastically.
"I swear it isn't me." Julie clutched his arm, suddenly fearful.
"Let go Julie and go to sleep." Josh grumbled.
The weight of her hands disappeared.
"Thank you."
Silence.
"Aahh!!" an ear piercing scream came from the foot of his sleeping bag.
"Julie!" he bolted to his feet and saw her standing in a door way, one hand pointing at something in the other room, the other covering her mouth.
"Julie?" he whispered, putting a hand on her shoulder and peeking into the room. "What's wro-"
"We can help. Don't run." the voices said again, coming from the little girl in the room.
"What the hell?" he whispered, Julie still frozen.
"HE HURT US!!" in a flash of dark light, the girl lunged at him, her image blurring into three before hitting him in the stomach.
Josh went flying into the opposite wall, leaving a dent and him dead with a broken spine.
"Josh!" Julie ran to her best friend.
"Don't run. Come play." the girl said again, deadly calm.
"You killed him!" Julie shouted, holding Josh's limp head in her lap.
"Now we kill you."
Julie flopped over, dead, her hands still cradling Josh's head.
"Don't run. Come play." Four voices whispered, eerily, waiting for their next victim.
