Chapter 6
The sun was shining bright through the silky curtains on the window. I opened my eyes feeling more relaxed than usual, as if I hadn't slept in days. I looked over to where my aunt should have been. She wasn't there, she wasn't anywhere to be found in the room. I progressively sat up. Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes I looked around. Everything was so peaceful, too peaceful. After what happened last night I was expecting to wake up to hell once again. But for the matter of fact it was very quiet and also very relaxing. I lifted myself up off the bed and slipped into my slippers. I progressed to the door. Carefully making sure that nothing would pop out at me. I slowly opened the door. I smelled something amazing and mouth watering. I followed the scent to downstairs. In the kitchen I saw food cooking, but no one in sight. Walking up to look at the food I spotted a shadow move across the left side of the room.
"You're up now my dear? I was just about to wake you, but you looked so innocent."
She smiled ever so sweetly and I smiled back. Trying to make conversation I replied innocently, "smells amazing, what are you cooking?"
"Mmmm sure does. Its grade A eggs, the best bacon in the state, toasty french toast, and a side of hand squeezed orange juice." She answered, walking up to a overhead cabinet and grabbing two plates.
After trying to make conversation, and finishing up the meal, it was time to clean up. Taking the dishes to the sink and starting the water I progressed with doing the dishes.
"I'm going to clean up after this, is that okay with you?"
"Yeah of course sweetie! Take your time, you can take all day if you want. I have to go to work in an hour so I'll see you when I get home." She came in closer and held her arms out for a hug. The she moved in and gave me a kiss on the forehead.
"Bye! I'm trusting you not to throw any parties!" She shouted sarcastically with a smile while heading towards the front door.
"Bye!!" I shouted back at her as the door slammed shut.
I finished the last of the dishes in the sink and headed up the stairs. In the bathroom I closed the door and started up the water for the tub. I examined the bathroom as I waited for the water to fill up the tub. The walls were a darker apple red color; the floors were varieties of greys, with some white and black. The bathroom sink cabinet was a darker wood, in between a black and a darker brown. I looked over to the tub again and noticed it was almost full. Turning off the faucet and stripping down to climb into the tub. The water was hot and relaxing. The steam was rolling off the surface of the water and clearing my nose passage up as it reached my face. And that was the last I remember of that time.
How long was I out? It must have been a while because the water had turned lukewarm. I'm lucky I didn't drown.
I heard footsteps in the hallway and my first guess was that my aunt was home and I had slept the whole day. I reached for a towel and stood up. I wrapped the towel around my chest and waist. I grabbed my phone and checked the time. I had only been asleep for a half hour, so why would she be back so early?
"Tracy?!" I yelled in curiosity of question.
No answer...
"Aunt Tracy?!" I shouted again only a little louder this time with concern in my voice.
Still no answer...
This time it sounded like two light sets of footsteps walking down the hall past the door. As they passed the door I could just make out two bigger outlined shadows on the ground. They were smaller shadows. Like little kids. I hesitated to do it yet I reached for the handle and opened the door.
The hallway was silent, not a soul to be found. I walked down the right of the hallway which was the direction I heard the pair of little footsteps go down. I reached a corner on the end of the hallway and slowly turned the corner, peeking around the wall. At the end of the hall were two little girls. Look alikes, most likely twins.
